Valtra v John Deere

Those N series valtra seem to hold there value quite well.

Change is never easy.place I get straw from has just bought 4 all singing all dancing valtras ,vario,60k,air cab sus, evo seats ect.they've been NH as long as I can remember.get very good service from them too but NH couldn't get anywhere near the deal valtra were offering.
Valtra will have put a lot of money in that deal to take out 4 NH.Most manufacturers will do that in the same situation to be fair.

@Northeastfarmer what spec of N series have they quoted? Active, versu, or direct?

Active is 5 powershift and manual spools, versu adds electric spools, and direct is the bells and whistles "Vario" gearbox.

Go for the direct, please! You will not regret it. It drives just like the forklift on the foot throttle, no brakes or clutch required. The direct is a actually a hydrostatic drive gearbox with 4 ranges and a powershift gear in each range.

It really is a lovely gearbox for everything, but especially for loader work that it was designed for!
I’m afraid it was the active which seemed adequate enough for us...I’m not too bothered about electric spools....it’s just more to go wrong.

Just be aware of the possible limited lift height of a JD loader.

They may have changed since I used a neighbours and I couldn't stack round bales 3 high on trailer.

JD 643 loader lifts very high so depends which model.
However It doesn't crowd back as well as the quicke used to which is annoying
when using a bucket.

I had an m series out to replace a 7yr old r series. Both 40k, After a day on it I preferred to get back in the r.
I've since brought a very low hours 130r with 50k. Lovely tractor. Couldn't bring myself to step back into a 20 series cab...
That's the trouble .M does seem to be a step back in time compared but nearly the same money if specked up .

Someone told me yesterday that the M cabs are a lot noisier than the R cabs
Same situation as yourself tractor loader just for bales because of JCB .Looked at new 120 m but was left disappointed .So decided to stick with what have already and stayed with Claas 450 .More for your money and great dealer local .

I have a N154 active with a loader. Been totally reliable for 2000hrs (as it should be).
Only options are 50k air brakes and sigma power.
My feeling is the depreciation will be less on a basic model, will be a great second hand tractor for a hill farm.
Might have put quicksteer on if I was doing it again.
Btw it is a very capable tractor.

Crikey at first I thought that your silage bales must be very small to be able to lift 4 at a time..... I can only do that with straw 🤔🤣

The new quicke loaders crowd is pretty much the same as MX, and better dump unless I'm mistaken. They're both in a different league compared to Deere.

@Northeastfarmer forklifts have been using electric valves for decades without bother. When was the last time you drove a tractor with lever controlled draught three point linkage?

I can remember driving ih 956's when still at school which had electric 3 point hitch valves (though the spools were levers).

Scary to think that's more than 35 years ago 😭

I am liking your grab just had to order one the same (6foot6inch) as my 18 year old ex skid steer grab is handling our bigger Kramer badly ( few welds cracking)

I like my grab too 😜

It's a 7'6" wide X form GS76 forklift grab with 1100mm tines. No bother to the Q5M loader 💪(though lifting 2.5 tonnes is best done with a wee bit of weight on the back)

After 8 pages, it's definitely a lot cheaper spending someone else's money 👍 🤣
