Valtra v John Deere

I’m not sure everybody is honest about their problems, and they all have them.
It's a bit like looking into reliability of a car, most people who are happy and without issues generally don't say anything about it. The only one's you hear from are those with problems. For every tractor brand that somebody has no issues with there'll be somebody who's had no end of problems. Whether or not these are self inflicted doesn't come into it. It's a bit like the whole brakes debate, yes some last ages and some makes use chocolate discs but there's still trailers being made and sold with totally inadequate brakes let alone all those already out there. Until you've had 'proper' commercial axles and brakes on a trailer which are working properly you don't realise how crap most are.

I think a lot of the problems are self inflicted. Not suited for the job, not operated correctly, not watching gauges or properly cleaning cooling systems so they get hot, chipped, remapped, poor maintenance, poor fuel/DEF storage and handling, driving like a t**t, the list is endless.
Ever watched some of the "operators" carting silage on Grassmen videos? :banghead:
It's ALWAYS the tractors fault though.
It was easier to spot the roughies years ago, they were the ones that wore out a clutch every 500 hours, its not so obvious today.

It doesn’t matter how you mind the brakes in the bigger Nh , they are simply not fit for purpose , one single disc in a 200 hp tractor, if you hire out a Nh for the summer season here , when you give it back you automatically get a bill for €4500 to do the brakes. The NHL’s dealers are making a fortune out of brakes.

I think much of the grief tractors go through in that kind of use is possibly related to what they are dragging on behind. In years gone by you could see which trailers were fudged because of the amount of movement in the wheels/suspension and how quickly they would pull up when loaded. Today, the build quality of all brands and use of air brakes and the like seem to have improved matters but then you read threads on here about the proposed trailer inspection schemes or full blown BAGMA tests and you find that, actually, a lot of ag equipment can't even meet the minimum standards right out of the factory it does concern me somewhat.

I am all for the weight and speed and size limits of agricultural machinery being increased. In fact, I would be in favour of an agricultural truck license being granted that allowed the industry to use 6, 8 or artic type agricultural trucks as they do on the continent, but there needs to be an increase in the level of specification, maintenance and inspections where agricultural kit is concerned.

Is there some castings that get worn if the discs go down to metal that cost the money on the NH?
