Valtra

What's the difference between Hi tech and active? Are active transmissions as reliable?
I'm no expert but think that although they're both 5 speed power shifts they are different transmissions, I think it's hi tech up to approx 125hp then the active, versu and direct. Direct is cvt, not sure the exact differences between active and versu, active seems to be lower spec with manual spools, versus seem t come with electric spools, there may well be other differences I don't know.

I am under the impression that all the powershifts are mechanically the same and the difference is in equipment.
Hitech has manual spools and no armrest.
Active has the older armrest but without the small screen at the end of it..
And Versu has the new Smart Touch armrest with all the bells you could ask for..

Thanks for those replies, I read up a bit on it too so understand more now. The separate oils sounds good for gearbox longevity. Haven’t driven anything other than a hitec 3 so haven’t got a clue but looking to swap a claas for another valtra and the choice seems to be hitec 5 or the active..

Hitechs are still available in all sizes , the new t4 are called hitech 5 .
Are there many S series selling now , they start at the s274 model but I never see any advertised.

Not sure how true it is but a Valtra fitter told me a hitech 5 was a hitech 3 with an overdrive/underdrive clutch pack added.

It's not the tractors fault that you have poor quality fuel. In Finland these tractors start at -20 no problem , we have had -4 here a bit lately and I havnt had a problem all year , the last time I changed the filters was lastyear before we started silage.
Heck, they start even at - 35°C (so does Deere and the others, but they do struggle a fair bit). The key is to run a tank of winter fuel with old filters, then swap in the new filters and fill the tank. Never had freezing problems with any tractor's fuel line or filter freezing. Head gaskets blowing at extreme temperatures is much more of an issue (looking at you, Deere).

every brand has there break downs at times
have had 2 valtras and nothing realy major with them so far a few strange things with them at times but others have the same kinda probs that just wind you up
i would buy another one when the time comes around
like any thing back up and service accounts for a lot
best brand is the world is crap if can't be fixed in a good time frame

So with the active being the old armrest...is it any good? As they’ve got the new singing and dancing armrest did the old arm rest need updating or is it pretty decent for a basic stock farmer’s tractor?

I don't think so.
The old one was fine, although mine has the small screen.
The proportional joystick I'd fantastic.

I haven't seen a smart touch joystick in the flesh so to speak, only in photos, and it looks a bloody awful cumbersome thing that was designed in the 80's bit of course o may be very wrong.
I don't have any proper experience of valtras but did go to look at a second hand direct and thought that seemed a nice simple layout with two sticks in the armrest, one a joystick for the spools, the other push forward to increase speed or tap to side and drive on throttle with a separate rotary dial for 4 speed ranges. Seemed a nice simple set up to me.
Not sure how the gearbox on the active and versu work although they appear to have the same stick in the armrest.

How does cab suspension handle banks? Is it a definite no on steep ground as in does it exaggerate the angle so much you don’t want to go on steep banks or does it make the ride so much more comfortable that you wouldn’t want to be without it and its nothing to get used to?

I have cab suspension on the t191 and I see very little differance in its comfort and the other t series with front suspension only . If it was costing much extra I wouldn't be too worried about it.

When I demo'd one I wasn't impressed.
It was just air cushioning at the rear instead of the springs.
This was in a T2 series, so might have improved since ?
