Vario doc task manager software

Hi,

Just got set up with vario doc Bluetooth connection with my pc and removed a whole heap of data from my tractor but I'm not sure where it is now, I guess it writes it to a file location but I checked in the program folder and it's not there, any body else doing this?

Probably depends on the your PC OS. Try to search for the "variodoc" folder on your C-drive. Could start from the users folder.

Which program are you using for the data? The program should know where to search for VarioDoc files.

OK.

The files at the root of the variodoc folder are:
variodoc.conf
variodoc.h2.db and
variodoc.lock.db

I don't know which files gatekeeper needs. Probably those at the data subfolder, files there are e.g:
taskdata.xml
tc.xsl and
iso11783_xxxxxxxx.xsd

Hopefully gatekeeper allows you to point first to the variodoc folder because your computer might be full of other *.xml or *.db files.

What other programs are people using to access the variodoc files. I'm slowly building a lot of files from the tractor but don't have a fmis program to read them as yet.

Liked the look of trimbles farmworks but that has gone to Trimble ag software as an online program and is horrifically expensive so trying to find alternatives.

Since I have a mixed fleet and I'm keen to implement the task recording across most of it and also integrate with economist at gatekeeper was the logical choice. People bash them and I understand why but they are market leaders so there isn't much choice

Sorry northern farmer I'm quite getting what you mean, I won't be upfront of the computer again until tonight. Are you saying that the files are in the vario doc program folder under those file types?

Also wondering if I will get the list of fields come across onto the pc with all their boundaries to update gk boundaries or if this is via a usb stick. I was thinking it was with a usb stick but haven't had much luck and my Trimble devices can or do send a complete list of fields and boundaries across with the task data

Not on the program folder but the variodoc folder under users directory. Something like C:\users\my_username\variodoc

Thanks

Ive managed to find this, it is exactly where you said. I have 3 tractors and have taken info from all of them, it doesn't seem to separate them out very well and needs a bit of manipulation to get it into gatekeeper easily unless I'm missing something.

I've put all of this together in gk which is great and now I'm trying to upload my field list and some tasks back onto the tractors, I can get gk to export the files but it isn't clear where to put the files to get the variodoc manager to send them back to the tractor, I've tried all of the folders in the data folder but with no luck.

Has anybody else done this? I will try agco support tomorrow, I have to say the variodoc manager isn't great, surely you just need an option to select the source and destination folders and a start button?

Thanks

I have only tried it with Farmworks (trial version). With Farmworks you only select the tractor/screen and the files are automatically written to a folder where VarioDoc manager finds them. You can then see a number on the "to vehicle" column until the tractor gets connected and reads the files.

Honestly I've never checked where the "to vehicle" files are placed and if it is sufficient to copy the files or if some index file is needed to alert VarioDoc manager for new files to be uploaded.

Gatekeeper support should be able to help too.

Hi matt, the guy on gatekeeper support setup mine to work well but he did explain the it's 2 parts. You must first export out of gk the data to a location/folder and then in gatekeeper click the upload button to pass the information to the variodoc server or to the local variodoc software.
If it's not working then get gatekeeper to sort it out for you.

I have loads of data on Farmworks (14 years worth) and agree the ag software is going to work out far too costly - could do with an alternative before Trimble force it on users.

It's too late. I have Farmworks too and stopped at version 2016.02.00.57 the last version as you cannot upgrade to the 2017.x version as they force you onto the exorbitant new pricing models.

Thanks for th info

Maybe the upload button is what I'm missing, I managed to get it to download by pressing that button but I was just poking about.

I tried the agco online and telephone support and Jose from Mexico tells me that gatekeeper is not on the supported list go away so I was also figuring I needed to call gatekeeper but getting in front of the computer during office hours is tricky. Will try to post more details when I've got it going.

Not sure if it's what your wanting but you can import the map files from vario doc via USB onto the pc and view them in google earth. Can see the field boundaries, a-b lines and where it's been 'coloured in'.

Is anyone actually interested in software for varioguide/variodoc managing ? Next to being a farmer and owning a 718 with varioguide/variodoc i was able to write software that loads the KML files and manage everything on the computer. Since its something only i use, i thought id share it with the rest or build it out to the needs of the farmers. Maybe ill ask a small fee (not in the range of the FMIS packets available)
