Varioguide serial interface cable.

Apologies in advance as technically this is a hardware issue rather than a Precision Farming question.
Is anyone using the Varioguide D-sub 9 pin connector in the roof of their Fendt tractor?
We are finding the locking nuts project quite a bit lower than a standard plug and the new cable we have barely makes any contact when attached.
Are all D-sub plugs a standard size?

I have used several different cables, factory made an self made cables and all have been fine.

I guess you mean your locking nuts appear to come lower from the roof, too far from the connector surface? I'll check how ours looks like, perhaps you would need to change those nuts.

EDIT: just checked ours, the nuts look exactly the same as on your photo.
Had a look at an old laptop that still has a serial port, the nuts were there too very similar, perhaps a bit shorter. On some other devices the nuts are still shorter.

It’s just a standard D-SUB / DB9 connector in the roof.

They are all pretty much the same - the only difference is the securing nuts - hex nuts by default are sometimes swapped for knurled nuts etc on some cable connectors.

Can you show us a picture of the connector you are trying to fit?

Had a look at an old laptop that still has a serial port, the nuts were there too very similar, perhaps a bit shorter. On some other devices the nuts are still shorter.

If the OP is having issues, he could undo the existing hex nuts and replace with shorter barrelled versions.

The trick is finding them, usually I just butcher whatever I have in my electronics junk drawer.

Just a standard DB9 connector from what I can tell.
As Northern Farmer points out the locking nuts protrude lower than the connector casing which is preventing the the two halves coming together completely.
I guess if the pins are in contact and the locking screws are holding the two connector bodies together it should be fine.
Failing that, as has been mentioned, then just remove them and cut them down.

Just to clarify my concern for the lack of connector depth connection was that this new cable won't pick up the GPS signal.
I have just dismantled the connectors on the supplied cable and the ground is correct in #5 but transmit and receive on pins #2 and #3 are crossed.
Will swap out and check again.
