VAT on a farm let unit/building

Can anybody please tell me if I should be charging VAT on a let unit on the farm this would be a farm building converted for storage type use.

Yes. we pay VAT on the unit we rent which was once a converted farm building.

Ok thanks, but does it have to be charged by the landlord to the tenant.

sometimes it is charged, sometimes it isn't, it depends on how the invoices get is done, and what has been claimed back during any building work that has been done to convert.
The landlords accountant probably needs to advise on the particular circumstance.

its up to you but if you don't charge vat on rent you can not claim vat on any inputs to the building repairs etc

Changed a while ago for storage uses so you are now supposed to charge VAT on them.
We have several offices and workshops that we do not charge (some we do) but all new lets that are for storage we do.
