that's an internet myth. All diesel has supplied meets EN 590
Show me proof.
I cant find any either way but there you go .

The brands keep their additives secret

I have proved that high performance fuel gives you more miles

And been told that my car will run dirty on unbranded fuel

I would be happy to see cast iron proof either way
EN 590 dont mean a jot
Makes no odds to me as branded and unbranded is same price on fuel cards

Doing vat and am fed up tying to keep all those little till receipts for the returns. What's everyone else's method. Garages don't want accounts any more. Any cards give you breakdown to make it simpler.

We photo them and send straight to Xero for the accounts.

However, I was called by a company offering a TFF fuel card for our members. I declined as I (possibly wrongly) assumed most have a derv tank or are in remote areas so won't have access to the "right" petrol stations. Could look into it again if there was a will.

could get it cheaper at Tesco but I try not to support Tesco for anything unless I'm desperate.
I think they sell it at very little or even zero profit just to get you into their store, loss leader type of thing.
Use their loyalty card to gain points towards further discounts and you are actually costing them money.
Probably doesn’t damage their profits a great deal but as they say, every little helps. ;)

That's a bit of a myth - there's a Tesco near here that sells an obscene amount of fuel every day & a lot of it is purely fuel sales - often to businesses customers filling up their van fleets. If fuel was being sold as a loss-leader the losses would soon make the site unviable especially when adding in the cost of the clubcard points. There is also a couple of independents & Applegreens not far away that are usually cheaper than Tesco & I doubt that they are selling for a loss either.

I have never bought anything but the cheapest fuel I can find ands can honestly never had a fuel issue which we could not trace back to our own storage ( from steel tanks)
currently I use an AF ( Anglia Farmers ) KEY fuel card which luckily is taken at my local station.
It is normally 1-5 p cheaper than I can get it in the local area. However it is far from universal and you do have to be careful before you fill up that the garage takes it.

All fuel supplied in the UK has to comply with the standards - EN228 for petrol & EN590 for diesel as a minimum requirement, but that doesn't prevent a manufacturer from providing the fuel to a higher grade or including detergents or other additives to improve performance, providing that those "improvements" don't impinge on the standards.

What sort of impact these "improvements" have on performance will depend to an extent on the vehicle, the engine tuning and the manner in which the vehicle is driven. For instance, I had a Galaxy 2.3 that performed best on BP fuel, but the next one ran better on Tesco - about 5mpg over BP. My current Fiesta gets an extra 2mpg on BP, but Tesco is 3p/litre cheaper. At the end of the day, whatever works best for you is the way forward.

I had a car that definitely did not like BP fuel no matter where I bought it.
I have nothing against BP and use it in other cars but that particular one ran very poorly on it.

Round here no taxi driver will use supermarket fuel due to injection system issues and poor fuel economy.
