Looks like l am going to import another bit of kit,but this time its coming from Germany.
Have the vat rules changed.
Last time I imported a bit kit I gave the dealer my VAT number, then the dealer 0 rated it and I declare it on my VAT returns.
Unfortunately the dealer cannot speak English and I cannot speak German which is making the deal interesting.
Just want to double check before I say ja to the deal.

Depends on the machinery. If it's anything that our lot can call a 'new means of transport' - for example, a tractor (believe it or not) - then you will have to pay VAT in the UK, not just on the machine, but also on any haulage charge. So you either get the dealer to zero-rate it, or you ask him for a VAT refund when you've paid your UK VAT. And good luck with that...

If it's just machinery, you pay VAT where you buy it and just bring it in.

Its on a new bit of machinery, last machine I bought on continent it was 2nd hand but this is new, don't suppose it makes any difference?
So you reckon I should pay the VAT over there and claim it back over here?
