Bound to be "Free"apps around or in pipeline soon.
If Government making people do it then they should supply the required software simple.
Exactly how I feel about it. They should supply software and guarantee it is safe

I have no interest in doing any on line pish if i dont have to . The press is full of victims of hackers . If I/we are not confident enough to do it , they should not be allowed to force us down this route

You can put me down twice for liking that . And I bet there'll be many glitches in the software before it settles down .

Most people using a computer accounts package already will probably be doing VAT online already. There haven't been any glitches as far as I know and nothing is changing on that side of things, they're just removing the ability for most do it by entering numbers in boxes.

That was my meaning . I enter ours using their programme - no problems at all . Factor in a new set of software , and possible problems - for me anyway . And whatever improvements we have made on presentation to the accountants , the price NEVER goes down - ever onwards and upwards from them .

A House of Lords Committee a week or so back accepted the need for a 6 month ‘bedding in’
period for public services to allow them to get get to grips with making tax digital. They remarked that offering no such option for small businesses was neglectful.

Have been doing VAT online for about 10 years now but since my March Vat returns I have be totally screwed as I cannot comply with the additional security of sending a code to my mobile phone as I cannot guarantee mobile reception as the signal inside my house is non existent for most of the time. The landline was removed over 5 years ago .due to not working after heavy rain which occurred quite frequently in Lancashire.Have requested exemption under the rules outlined at the start and all I have got from some dick-head in HMRC is that I dont have any option as all vat has to be entered online. So fines and penalties going up each quarter with over 5 grand on each company.to date.

I am sure you could get a 4g router with a chimney or similar aerial and enjoy very fast broadband speeds and VOIP for that matter.

Out of interest, how do you connect to the Internet if you have no landline or mobile signal?

Okay so you probably have a router with WiFi enabled on it; if you have a smartphone you could use the HMRC app to provide the necessary security code - if you don't have a smartphone then that's not an option.

wifi not supported by my mobile provider plusnet. I dont see why I have to change mobile provider when I could just as easily put a stamp on an envelope once a quarter.

Maybe easy for you, but not the taxman! You don't need WiFi calling - just Internet access on a smartphone & this can be through your existing Sky WiFi router. You then have the HMRC app on your phone which gets the security code over the Internet - no need for mobile signal or phone calls.

Sorry not my problem. I dont understand how to use 99 per cent of this smart phone and I am certainly not starting now, To be honest I am seriously looking at going back to a dumb phone in order to get better battery life and better signal coverage.Taxman problem is there own creation as I was originally submitting my quarterly returns online.

You do realise that those fines won’t go away, whatever you thoughts on the system? I would respectfully suggest that you need to get this sorted out ASAP.

I know someone who lost his business (council dairy farm tenancy), his solvency and consequently, his marriage, over thinking he could ignore bills from another institution that always gets their money, in his case a Water Co.
