Vat Return

Tried to log on today to do a vat return and was unable because I keep being asked for a 9 Digit vat number when mine has always been a 12 digit number. Tried to contact the vat people by phone but they keep referring me to online help which is no help at all. Has anyone else had problems accessing their vat account?

Have you done online before?
Are you over the 85k thresholds so to MTD (make tax digital)software needed?

I will be filing my vat return the old way, as can still log in and bring up the vat form on there website for the correct dates, anyone else found that you can do this, it says only do this if you have not signed up to the digit vat system, i have not yet!

That's the way I do my vat return. Worked this morning, sent me the code so I could log on. All done for another 3 months.

If your vat quarter started the 1st March you could still do that return the old way.

Any quarters starting on or after 1 April need to be done the new way ( if over 85k turnover )

I am still doing mine the old way, cant understand why it lets me maybe turnover under 85k. I will move over to the mtd when I have to. Still learning how to use quick books, any body else using qickbooks?

I’ve been using Quickbooks for several years, the 2016 desktop version not the expensive online/cloud offering. My last 3 returns (monthly) have all gone through as normal.
Turnover is over £85k, which I guess they could work out by looking at returns detailing sales & purchase amounts each month.
I haven’t signed up to MTD yet as my QB version isn’t compatible. I am however keeping records on a software package and filing online, so part way there......sort of.....:cautious:
