Veg oil.....a fuel alternative?

I thought I would consult the experience and knowledge of the TFF members.
With increasing fuel costs(£1.50-£1.80 here in the south west)
Is it possible to mix Veg oil in to diesel to make it go a little further or am I asking for trouble. Vehicle in question, Isuzu DMax.
If it is possible, what sort of ratio?

I think I'd try it in an old land rover engine first. Could be hard to start on a frosty morning. Look up Elsbett (spellng?) on google.

technically you still have to pay the duty on it I think.

when i ws doing it, they changed it so you only had to pay duty after you made 2000 litres.
It was at that point HMRC de-registered me as a fuel producer.

It was only December i dismantled my bio-diesel quipment (scrapped it)

Trouble is , with no sunflower oil coming out of Ukraine this year, veg oil may just prove to be just as expensive ...

So I can run my fleet on cooking oil mix newest one is 31 ,what ratio of oil to diesel is needed

Thank you everyone, some more research needed regarding the law me thinks! Don’t want to get pulled in at Walford cross sale next month by VOSA and smell like a chippyAnd whether the dmax fuel pump and injectors would put up with it!
