Vegan nonsense

I just don't know what to think, with the inaccuracies alone. Leave aside the is it/ isn't it ethical question, has anyone thought of what 6bn people are actually going to eat, in terms of a varied diet, and who/ how its going to be grown?

I'd point the author here as a first retort re the food scares and dangers they have very selectively highlighted...

Then as alluded to above we get to the question of what exactly we are to do with the vast swathes of this planet that are only suitable for growing grass if this vegan utopia existed. Once we have failed to get a sensible answer to this we might move on to adequate nutrition of infants just for some variation...

I know it's freedom of speech and all that but I'm sick of the prominent soapbox that extremists from all walks of life seem to be able to access these days, it's dragging us all down!

I think vegans are hugley hypocrytical, they wont eat meat, dairy or eggs because they come from a living thing but are quite happy to eat plants and fruit that...... come from living things?? as i'm pretty sure plants are living things but i guess they havent got a face so thats ok.

if we wasnt supposed to eat meat it wouldnt be so tasty.

They seem to hi-jack every post on social media about meat and dairy production, one on BBC breakfast Facebook page this morning on why lamb consumption is falling. It does concern me the number of potential consumers we are loosing due to the misinformed crack pots who have got a global platform on social media. I can only see it get worse as more and more youngsters grown up with this stuff and don't know any better than to question it.

I can't help but think we need a massive counter campaign, either a group to counter post to the BS that gets put online or rather than expanding their publicity create a separate web site/face book page stating the truths/facts about farming.

While I was eating my lunch (lentil and bacon soup) I read the comments on the BBC Breakfast Facebook post. For those who haven't had time, I can summarise the comments in order of numbers (didn't count them exactly, but this was my impression). The question was why don't you eat lamb, (NB NOT meat v no meat):
1 Too expensive (vast majority)
2 Non-stun slaughter (mostly described as Halal, despite one post which said most Halal in this country is stunned)
3 Vegetarian / vegan (ie never) - cute fluffy clouds with legs, children being upset seeing them in fields and hearing they were killed etc. Someone sensibly suggested a "rebranding" ie changing the name away from "lamb" to something else so people didn't equate eating lamb to cute animals.
4 Too fatty, or perceived as too fatty whether it was or not ie "unhealthy".
4 Militant vegan - people who eat meat destroying the planet, themselves, the rainforest, inhumane, "leave them alone", "leave them be", keep them as lawnmowers", murderers, torturers, cruelty, abattoirs awful places etc etc etc.
For a while I too thought discussing these things gave the extremists a platform and they should be ignored, but I am really beginning to wonder if this attitude is just giving more freedom to the militants to express their opinions, valid or invalid. Having said that, No 1 was the most frequent comment, which surprised me as I have never thought of lamb as being particularly expensive.

What do they think will happen to all of the sheep\pig\chickens\cows etc is we all stopped eating meat?

Oh but they can all live at will, all happy and free on the vast swathes of grassland that we can't use to grow vegetables. Then when we rewild it with lynx and wolves etc, they'll have plenty to hunt... sounds perfectly doable to me :banghead:
It's not their decision to be vegan that bothers me, it's their blatant ignorance :(:(
