Bought a oldish twostroke bike to fettle and now have a reverse in battery power problem.
The bike is 12 volt but only the last model was made in 12 volt form so there is very few magneto ignition and charging parts about.
The old ignition exciter coil is goosed and no longer available.
I have enquired at a few motor electronic companies about a rewind of said coil without a reply.
Tried rewind it myself with the same guage wire with no joy as some sort of shelac type coating is needed as you rewind the wire to insulate it .
So bought a 6 volt complete assembly and now have a decent spark so the coil and rectifier are happy but I have not dared conect the 12volt battery .
So is it 6volt battery and bulbs horn etc or would the magneto be ok with the 12volt battery...
Cheers
Ian

Perhaps the bike is 12v apart from the ignition circuit which is the same as previous models at 6v ????

My guess otherwise would be if not that the bike would run fine but not charge the battery - but it is a guess as I don't what it would do to the new coil.

If you are running a 6 volt ignition system on a 12 volt general system you will need to have a 6 volt ballast resister in the coil positive connection you don't say what breed of bike you got or age a little more information won't go wrong g

If you dont mind a bit of modding , the modern transistor ignition can be stolen from
many scrap engines. Lots of instructions on the net on whats needed
