Its a long story Mr O. We are using four rams this year, all registered (though what the point is I begin to wonder) Pedigree Charmoise
I agree, I recently sold a bunch of charmoise ewes for pennies at market (the loss on some of them was heart breaking) but I was just extremely glad I never registered pedigree any of my home bred ones I sold in that group, now that would have been money down the drain
Clean slate with the remaining ones however and registrations will continue until a better option comes forward I guess
Pedigree paperwork is only ever of value if you are selling to someone else (or preferably two others) that value those records. Otherwise, they are just sheep.
Good to see you posting on here again @Keepers , even if it is about ugly pig sheep.
Is the Charmoise society not cutting the mustard? I would have to say I'm not in love with the Easycare society either.I agree, I recently sold a bunch of charmoise ewes for pennies at market (the loss on some of them was heart breaking) but I was just extremely glad I never registered pedigree any of my home bred ones I sold in that group, now that would have been money down the drain

And your mate with the Dorsets and the 'dispersed flock' is still to the fore?Umm no, no they aren’t, I have been with them a few years now, and have always been the same, I ran the website and completely changed it for them so that it was actually understandable. Used to attend meetings and I have spent a small fortune over the years on registered ewes.
And then I gave up, when all your pedigree documents come back with someone else’s ewe as the dam and a donkey as the sire, you sort of wonder why it’s worth paying....
Yes indeed, sheep sold without papers are at the end of the day, just sheep
Might venture back on a little
PS... blue texels have deep wool
One was suggested that Charmoise had an advantage by being smaller and slower growing, giving them a lower carbon footprint.....

Did I say that? If not I will claim it as my own...Charmoise had an advantage by being smaller and slower growing, giving them a lower carbon footprint.....
