Very low butterfat milk sample.

Latest milk sample this morning has butterfat at 2.39, it's usually 4 - 4.2.
That can't be right, can it?

Protein is 3.42, month average over 3.5.
50% of milkers calved in the past 3 weeks.

What could have caused this or is it a bad/incorrect sample??

Suspect it is a sample error, particularly if the next one is back up. We had a payment sample come back as 3.07 last week down from 4.3 2 days previous. We had milk recorded the same period and the bulk sample taken just 4 hours before the tanker was 4.17!

Your agitator working ok? If it had been off for a significant time and sampled from the bottom in theory they could of missed the fat?

From a limited experience viewpoint, I'd say agitation (or lack of), milk doesn't have to sit for long for the fat to rise.

Sampling Error. It happens. If you sample every collection I would imagine the next test will have be correct. If it's not a payment test I wouldn't be losing too much sleep over it.

I always find SCC is proportional to fat. Whenever I have a rogue very high or low BF,the cell count is always equally very high or low.

There is a proven link between the 2 exactly as you've said. I'll try and find it in somewhere in amongst my pile of "things" in my office.

Scc sticks to the butter fat, we get problems at dry off, when driver forgets to press the agate button , had fats of nearly 10% and scc of 700 to match

yes, comes on automatically every 20 mins and driver also supposed to agitate before sampling. It was straight up back over 4 again next test.

Fats 10% but Bacto is 700
