Uni’s are allowing it. I have one here currently though she also is a daughter of a family friend.

There was a bit more paperwork re Covid but no real bother

Worth advertising on FaceAche as well because there will be shed loads of wannabe Vet Med students looking for work experience on a farm because they need experience of animal husbandry before even applying for a veterinary degree. Obviously a farm is a lot easier to socially distance on than a small animal consult room.

Yeah, we have had to adapt - risk assessments over the phone and a COVID checklist for the employer to fill in, but they are central to our courses - over three years a graduate from us will have had to complete 960 placement hours. Obviously this will be much more if they do a four year sandwich option with a year in industry,

It’s basically 1000 ish ewes, lambing outside on one ring fenced block. Exlana ewes mostly exlana tups, some Charmoise x. Few pedigree Charmoise to lamb. Student just expected to lend a hand generally, come around with me or lad who works for me, do bits in the shed and generally help out around the farm. Accommodation provided in a nice three bed house with me and my Mrs, and she makes real good cake. Must like dogs, sheep and have a sense of humour! It’s a good chance to see a commercial and relatively progressive sheep farming operation. We will also just have calved about 600 cattle and have organic laying hens etc so plenty to see about the place.

We are pretty good crack i think, im 36 and lad who works for me is 27. Attitude and sense of humour the most important probably!

Sounds ideal.
Accomodation will make it much easier to place someone.

HI , I am a vet student from University of Edinburgh, and I am also looking for a lambing placement for this year. I could start as soon at around 24 march. Would this fit your lambing time?
Thanks in advance!

Do you all worry about a stranger coming onto your place possibly spreading covid to you at a time of year that is so important to be led up?
Are you getting these students tested pre placement?
Our daughter is being tested 3 times next week at secondary school, would uni students be offered the same?
We turned any help away early on, same as last year, sad as our daughter will be in this position in a few years and can feel for the students.

Hi
Thank you so much for bringing up this point, I totally agree and understand your concern.
Sorry that I forgot to mention that I will get myself COVID tested prior to coming, I am not sure about other universities, but our university does offer COVID test for us and we have to adhere to all the facemask, social distancing and travelling guideline.

I hope this answers your question and I understand that we are all facing a challenging and unusual time together :)

Unis should be offering tests.
My daughter has a placement with a vet in Scotland and has a test and isolation period before going.

Hi all

I am a 2nd year vet student @ Liverpool uni, currently living just near Blackpool.

I am looking for 2 weeks of lambing and I am available between Sunday 21 march - sat 10 april.

I have experience with both indoor and outdoor lambing.

I would also require accommodation if you are not local to Blackpool.

Thanks

Josh

Thanks

We are offering tests - students get tested on site and staff home test.
