My vet charges £50 for call-out and £120/hour for time plus any medication supplied. The cynic in me says we will suddenly see our annual sheep visit charge rise from about £60 to £463

It is to be hoped that the money will pay for a routine management visit from your vet to discuss general problems the farmer has, rather than for a prescribed or fixed purpose. Some farms that do not utilise their vets other than for emergency visits may well spend the two to three that this pays for just getting to know what’s going on in order to tick some relevant official box. Probably a box labelled with one of the current buzzwords like ‘welfare’ or ‘sustainability’ or ‘world leading standards’ It does seem to be specifically in order to prepare the ‘herd or flock health plan’ after all, which dairy farmers at least already must do. So it’s nice to have the cost of doing so acknowledged at last and actually paid for. When I say ‘paid for’, one must remember that most other payments are being cut and that this is a drop in the ocean and more a public-relations exercise than anything. So let me get this right ......we just paid £100 quid for our health plan to the vet but the government are going to give cosiderably more ......do we keep the change ?
.......or ,all of a sudden , our health plan is suddenly not good enough and we have to finance another visit ........or have I got this wrong ?
As far as I can see, they'll do just what they did before but will realise we're getting some brass from the government and, hey ho, they'll suddenly charge us £463.So let me get this right ......we just paid £100 quid for our health plan to the vet but the government are going to give cosiderably more ......do we keep the change ?

It’s already being taken away is it not? This is just a little something to keep ‘us’ sweet. As far as I can see, they'll do just what they did before but will realise we're getting some brass from the government and, hey ho, they'll suddenly charge us £463.
You can bet what we get given with one hand will be snaffled away by the other
I suppose you could couldn't you. Just like all these things they're voluntary.I hate these schemes, why can't we just pay the going rate for services as and when we need them? The only people benefiting from it will be vets who will increase their fees accordingly to absorb the "free" money. It just smacks of a desperate attempt to keep farmers in the grey man's pockets.
No you don’t. I don’t. But the prices of a lot of overheads from contractors, to feed to machinery are artificially high due to being underpinned by the subsidy system. It disproportionately affects the smaller farmers and those who choose not to or cannot claim the subsidy.I suppose you could couldn't you. Just like all these things they're voluntary.
You don't have to claim subs and all the hoops it involves or be in these environmental schemes do you?
It does seem that a lot of UK Ag is built off a scheme, subsidy or tax break.
But it doesn't hurt to look at it in detail ie ......as I posted before...is this in addition to my health plan and if nit can I claim the moneySomeone offers to pay for a vet visit/assessment
Farmers can say yes please or no thankyou
Quit whinging ---it's a nice offer and you don't have to take it up
I think (don't quote) that you can claim for a vet visit as part of an annual structured planning exercise & that it can be part of something you are already doing ---but i have to admit i find translation of most govt. sourced documents difficultBut it doesn't hurt to look at it in detail ie ......as I posted before...is this in addition to my health plan and if nit can I claim the money
Trouble is, if you don’t take it up you’ll see the cost increase anyway. A health plan which was £100 is £400 overnight.Someone offers to pay for a vet visit/assessment

worst of it wether you claim the visit money or not the prices will be put up to value of grant, as i pointed out to janet in grant thread. As far as I can see, they'll do just what they did before but will realise we're getting some brass from the government and, hey ho, they'll suddenly charge us £463.
