VG offers a range of tailored Wind Turbine, Biomass and Solar solutions to suit the needs of land owners and businesses that enable them to reduce electricity bills, generate a guaranteed income stream, reduce their carbon footprint or even rent their land and install our own turbines. We offer the complete package including sales, consultation, planning, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance which are all carried out by in-house staff.

OUR STORY

In 2008 the founders of VG Energy, were looking to install a small wind turbine on each of their farms and found that no existing company could offer them the level of expertise and service that would normally be expected when purchasing agricultural equipment. They realised quickly that there was a huge gap in the market for a company selling wind turbines under a model similar to a reputable agricultural machinery dealership, specifically including the important aftersales service. This was how VG Energy was born.

The Greers Go Green!

All of a sudden, the temperature in the UK has dropped a little. Businesses all over the country are thinking about switching on the heating system. However, with the cost of conventional fuel as high as ever, organisations are conscious of how much fuel they use and whether they can wait a little longer before touching that switch.

Woodstone Farm in Montrose, Scotland, has no such concerns this year, following the installation of a new biomass heating system for the main farm building and 5 additional properties.

The farm wanted to reduce their use of fossil fuel and generate monthly income from the renewable heat incentive package. So, they replaced the old oil boilers and found a more cost effective heating and hot water solution, thanks to VG Biomass’s expertise.

The VG Biomass team designed, commissioned and installed a 199kW Heizomat biomass boiler. One of the farm’s existing agricultural sheds was converted into a boiler house and storage area for the woodchip fuel.

Six properties needed to have new boilers fitted. Two of these were inhabited by elderly residents. So, VG Biomass left these properties until last, so as to minimise any disruption. In fact the project was managed with such precision that for these two properties, the work was completed within one day.

Biomass is an environmentally friendly and cost effective way to provide heating and hot water from a low carbon source. By installing a biomass system to your home, property and business you will be:
- doing your bit to save the planet
- generating positive PR for your business
- saving money
- earning money
- reducing and reusing
- helping the local economy
- becoming more self sufficient!

So, let’s take a look at the exact benefits the Greer family at Woodstone Farm will achieve:
- Annual fuel cost saving: £9, 470.26
- Annual income via the RHI: £32,000. Projected to be £646,000 over 20 years
- Payback on investment: under 5 years
- 96% efficiency
- Guaranteed 20 year income

With the VG Biomass team, clients benefit from 40 years of combined heating and power experience, full design, advice, installation and service packages, project management services, quality components and market leading boilers.

Speaking about their experience with VG Biomass, Mr Greer said: “It was a pleasure dealing with the team at VG Biomass throughout the entire process from the initial consultation discussions to the week-long biomass install on our farm. They worked with us at all times to ensure we had the right solutions for our specific requirements. And I thank them for their professionalism and cooperation.”

NORVENTO AND VG ENERGY SIGN SEVEN-TURBINE SUPPLY DEAL AND SCOTTISH AGENCY AGREEMENT

Glasgow, 29th September 2014 –Leading UK-based renewable technology specialist, VG Energy (VG) and Spanish medium-scale wind turbine manufacturer Norvento have agreed the sale of seven nED100 100kW turbines for a portfolio of sites under development in Scotland. This sale will provide a strong momentum to VG as it becomes Norvento’s first Scottish nED100 Agent.

Under the terms of the sales deal, Norvento will supply a total of seven nED100 units starting in Q4 2014 and continuing into the New Year. The turbines will form an integral proportion of VG’s own development pipeline. Furthermore and within the Agency Agreement, VG will showcase nED100 as a key part of its product portfolio. By becoming a client of itself, VG has demonstrated a firm belief in Norvento’s cutting edge technology.

Once installed, the turbines will be serviced and maintained by VG as the firm also becomes the first nED Operations and Maintenance (O&M) subcontractor to cover the North of the UK.
“In a market where single and twin-turbine installations are the norm, this seven-turbine deal and Agency agreement with VG is a clear sign that firms are starting to recognise and buy in wholeheartedly to the unique advantages of nED100,” said Ivo Arnús, Director of Business Development, Norvento.

“nED100 is the product of an extensive 5-year design and testing process – and this is what really sets Norvento apart from other manufacturers in the medium-scale wind sector. We’ve looked long and hard at the UK farm-scale wind market and our findings have fed directly into the design of our turbines.”

“VG will not only roll out nED100 as a key part of its own development pipeline, but also promote, operate and maintain the turbine throughout Scotland. This agreement signals the start of a close partnership between the two firms.”

Gordon Smith, Director, VG Energy, added, “As VG builds out a portfolio of turnkey sites and continues to promote farm-scale renewables across Scotland, it was important to make an informed decision when it came to choosing a turbine and manufacturer.”

“Farm-scale wind developments are often held back by concerns about the reliability of turbines and noise and visual impacts.”

“Based on current market conditions, Norvento’s nED100 stood out as the clear frontrunner in terms of impacts and reliability. It’s one of the quietest machines on the market and incorporates a range of remote sensors that will really augment our capacity for swift, efficient O&M support in the coming years.”

Prior to signing this latest agreement, Norvento and VG worked together on a twin-turbine site in Castle Douglas. The site, successfully commissioned on 21st August this year, was originally developed by VG and then sold to Norvento ahead of turbine installation.
As Norvento’s expansion in the Scottish farm-scale energy market continues, the company has also confirmed the appointment of Dug Butler as Regional Sales Manager.

In his new role, Dug will take responsibility for business development and customer relationship management for all key Norvento accounts located in the North of England and in Scotland. Dug has a ten-year track record working in UK onshore wind.

“While the long-term issue of grid connection continues to present a hurdle for some would-be Independent Power Producers and developers in remote regions, the Scottish distributed wind market still sets the standard for the wider UK, and we’re pleased to be making some significant headway in this key growth region,” Dug added.
