Vicon Varispreader

Hi all,
Anyone still using a Vicon wagtail fro spreading Fert on grassland. Anyone bought a new one recently ?
We used to run them for years before having a basic Kuhn disc spreader. Lots of small and awkward fields on 250 acres of grassland. Any thoughts welcome .

Yes I have just bought another ,the last one I had for 18 years and sowed 60t/yr fertilizer. Always kept well greased and used up 4 spouts in that time but it never let me down .It has proved to be accurate, forgiving of less than ideal condtions but compared to 24m spreaders used by my neighbours a bit slow. I also have small awkward fields average size 8 acres! I hope the new one is as good as the last one.

Still use mine, bought new in 1997. Wash out every time it is used and greased when dry which is important to keep water out if the bearings, still looks like new.

1154 model here which is around 20 years old but is still the current model. Doesn't do a lot but has accurately spread everything that has been put in it and has been reliable so far. I wouldn't change it for a disc spreader.

Yeah we do, good spreader really there’s a company who make a copy of them in Ireland @steveR should point you in the right direction sensible money. Only 12m and abit slower but hey they’ve been used for as long as time is old.

Rocha, Portugese made, with a Vicon spreader block. Better build than Vicon ever managed IMO. Galvanised chassis and polypropolene hopper. 12m spread. I would have gone for a Teagle, but I wanted a very light spreader.

The Irish connection, is the company I bought it off, on a recommendation here on TFF. Sell a lot of them in NI and Eire for just the reason the OP describes, small fields...

Later:

And cheaper than Vicon, when I bought it.

I bought a new one in 2019 , hold 24 cwt approx. Previous Vicon bought new by my father In 1979 , for €310 . Got a half ton hopper made about 25 years ago. 1 set of bearings spreading 30 tons annually approx. No interest in twin disc . or Vicon look alike
, such as Abbey, Cosmo or Fleming ,
Which cost 1k less approx.

If you want cheap to run, simple and accurate at 12m it’s hard to find better.A new one is on my list, weigh cells and electronics to work it would be handy, but that’s getting away from the basic principle really.

Just spotted this on Facebook Marketplace

I know it's the 600, rather than the 750 base and it would need the 600 extension but I couldn't see the different base hopper and the extension adding £1250
