Ballygreggan Farm, an attractive mixed dairy unit situated on the Kintyre Peninsula, on the west coast of Scotland, is for sale through Galbraith.
The small settlement of Drumlemble lies a short distance away from the farm on the B842, whilst Campbeltown with its larger range of shops, schools and professional services lies 3.5 miles to the east. Glasgow is also accessible via the A83 from Campbeltown and is 135 miles distant by road.
The agricultural nature of the area ensures it is well provided for by agricultural merchants and contractors and machinery dealerships, and there are regular haulage routes to the livestock markets in Stirling, Oban and Dalmally.
Ballyreggan Farm
History
Ballygreggan Farm is a well-equipped mixed farming unit of over 200ac near Machrihanish Aerodrome on the Mull of Kintyre, with the Atlantic Coast lying only a short distance to the west.
It is sited among the best agricultural land found on the peninsula.
Duncan Barrie, who is handling the sale of the holding, commented:
“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a renowned former dairy farm, of which has been farmed by the same family since 1875, and the seller being the fourth generation of the family to run the holding.”
Land
The land, which extends to about 214.19ac (86.68ha), has been classified by the James Hutton Institute as being predominantly Grade 4.2 and 5.1 with a section of Grade 3.1.
It is well suited to grass and has historically grown cereals, with the majority of the pasture ground having been reseeded on a rotational basis over the past few years.
All of the land has benefitted from regular applications of farmyard manure and slurry generated on the farm.
An ongoing programme of ditching and reseeding has ensured the grass sward is maintained to its maximum potential with all of the fields benefitting from a privately fed field trough and rylock electric fences.
