Viewing vehicle/machine in for repair

Although I've been involved in the motor trade all my working life, I don't know the answer to this, do you have rights to view your vehicle while it is in for repair, personally I wouldn't have any problem letting a customer view his vehicle. Nephews car in for accident repair, they are messing about with different stories regarding progress, (parts problems, then say it's nearly ready, but not yet painted) I know they will spout the usual h+s or insurance reasons, but does he have rights to view his car

Lots of places do not allow the customer into the workshop ,Its there inner sanctum were what ever goes on in the workshop ,stays in the workshop .
Once a vehicle goes through the doors ,they don't want you to see what's going on in case you might know more than they do or ask too many questions of why it needs so many expensive parts.

On the other hand many dealers now have viewing panels for customers to see into the workshops and more and more are using live video to keep the customer informed of progress.

There are very real H&S issues with customers in workshops, apart from disrupting the work flow and concentration of staff. If customers are to be allowed into the workshop it is a requirement that they keep behind marked lines that form 'safe' corridors for them and on no account should they cross those lines. It's all a load of bunkum but having seen some people's complete inability to see danger or to have any common sense, I can see where insurers, the HSE and employers are coming from.

I believe DVSA encourage MOT stations to have a customer viewing area?
They have to have IIRC , any garage that wont take you in and show you how far they`ve got with your cars work has something to hide , does he have a right ? yes its his car , he can have it taken somewhere else if he wants , personally I`d just walk in , camera phone on.

Last time I left a tractor in for repair it sat out in the yard for weeks before it went into the workshop to be worked at ,under warranty . The previous repair was only partly successful. So there wasn't much to see. Four weeks first time and possibly six weeks second time, dealer of the year award I think not !!!

Try owning a Quadtrac, never any change out of £10k!
BTW it’s been sold!
Repair costs per acre of work done should be no more than average of course. That's unless those things are particularly troublesome.
Back in the mid-1970's I ran a 2wd MF595 for three years from new. It was covered by warranty for the first year but still managed to cost £3/hour in repair costs by the end of year three. Imagine that even today, using a 90hp tractor and over 5000 hours running up a £15,000 repair bill with about three major repairs a year. Couldn't get rid of it for a sensible price either, and the only one to even offer to take it off my hands was the MF dealer in exchange for a 590 4wd. The 590 was much better but still cost a fortune to keep going to 4000 hours. At that time customers were queuing in two lines out to the door at the MF dealer's parts counter and even then, in the early 1980's, nothing came out of that workshop with less than a £1000 bill.

sounds like they are at it. see it all the time, ask nicely to see your car if they still refuse get on to the insurance company and tell them you are being messed about and would like to know when you are getting your car back. If he is paying it himself remind them who is paying the bill and give them what for, and let people by word of mouth know there game

Not a John Deere not prepared to go into details yet, a letter is to be sent to the UK Headquarters ,total shambles machine having to be split at less than 60 hours. If they aren't prepared to deal with it will go higher. Definitely not over !!

Sorry it was a tongue in cheek comment, with reference to your username.
