Vintage tractor fans disappointed at show.

I was at the Cranleigh Show in Surrey last Sunday both as a judge and vintage parade commentator.I enjoyed the day with lots to see in glorious Weather. However tractor owners and visitors to the show were very disappointed when looking at the good and various models of tractors ( about 50) as the tractors were fenced around the outside of tractor static display area with steel crowd type control barriers over 1metre high. To be able to look around the tractors and talk and socialise with the owners you had to access the area though I gate that every one was shutting behind them when going in and out.
Access through this gate was only supposed to be by invitation from a tractor owner and this resulted in very few people and families entering the area.
The whole atmosphere was destroyed by this need less action by the show organisers .
To take reasonable photos would be nearly impossible and tractors in the second row which were near the centre of the compound were probably too far away
The area was completely level and if a very thorough and firm check to ensure all tractor had had there batteries disconnected I believe all safety aspects would have been taken care of O K.
I suggest THE PERSON OR PERSONS who instigated this over the top arrangement should think again. QUITE A LOT OF TRACTOR OWNERS STATED THAT IF IT IS THE SAME IN FUTURE YEARS THEY WON'T ATTEND AGAIN
I attend about 10 shows a year and i have never seen such as this anywhere before.

Best part of the local steam rally is going down to talk to owners also to see the living vans they tow .I have been in the firework display business for 30 yrs odd now and have to do lots of risk assessments which are really over the top to the point where displays are now been removed from events due too some over cautious person who has been elected H&S for the one event.People like to get among the machinery fair do's no touching but come on its getting daft now and i fear many events will not exist soon :(
