Virkar Group Ocean/Dynamic Drills

Shame about Agri South being cancelled for second time, it was postponed last year due to complications at the site or something. I was looking forward to this new event in Kent so hopefully next year it will get going,3rd time lucky!!

Are ther any videos of this drilling through very heavy residue or cover crops?
seems like a cheapened version of cross slot with disc and tyne but I know Baker and Ritchie tried a similar concept before coming up with cross slot concept. I think They found the disc worked quite a lot of the time but not all the time for residue clearance of the tyne.

Hello I have attached the links to some videos of the Virkar Dynamic DC drilling into some cover crops last autumn. The design of the coulter with the Hydraulic pressured front cutting disc allows for all crop residue to be cut prior to the seeding tine meaning drilling into tall dense cover crops is no issue. With great underframe clearance and coulter stagger also helps when drilling into thick crop residues and cover crops. We have seen great results from this machine when working into cover crops. and the design of the coulter with the 35cm of coulter travel and on the move coulter pressure control, makes the Virkar Dynamic a very versatile direct drill.

if you require any more information we are more than happy to help.

Potentially purchasing a stripper header would be interested to know whether you have tried your drill behind stripped straw either with the tine or disc units? Reviews have said a tine wouldn’t work but the Virkar tine has a leading disc and good frame clearance which has more chance than others.

In regards to using the Dynamic DC into a crop that has been stripper headered, We have not tried this currently. With the DC Version I would not see it to be a problem, with the front cutting disc and the underframe clearance and coulter stagger gives you plenty of room to get the crop residue through. On 25cm row spacings you would be able to drill between the previous years rows if on RTK steering which would also help.

The Dynamic D coulter would have no issue drilling into crops that have been stripper headered, with the same underframe clearance and coulter stagger as the DC The disc only coulter would work well.

Both coulters would work in those condition's its just which one would be suited best. having drilled into most scenarios with the Dynamic DC I would be fairly confident that it would perform fine.

Our demo 6 meter Dynamic DC drill we will be having 1 Dynamic D element in there as we now offer 3 coulters that all fit into one chassis and work the same, so it will be a good way of seeing the DC and the D coulter to be working in the same machine to see the results from that.

Short video showing the 2021 Virkar Dynamic Drill range the DC,D,C

One chassis 3 coulters the ultimate in drill flexibility, with the Dynamic DC well established in the uk with several machines running, we will in the coming months be having the Dynamic D and C machines to offer our customers.

Thanks for posting videos but would like to see one going through very heavy barley or wheat straw. We have up to 13 tonne to ha of straw which can easily plug a drill especially if not a hot day.

Great video showing the Virkar Dynamic drill range. The C,D,DC machines offer ultimate versatility when it comes to direct drilling.

Very pleased with how the winter wheat has established. This was drilled on the 20th November straight into a dense cover crop. The conditions were fairly sticky, and had a couple of heavy showers when drilling, but the drill coped very well. The unique design of the Virkar Dynamic DC coulter with the front turbo cutting disc and the following seeding tine, allows for the crop residue to be cut, and the turbo disc opens a narrow slot breaking away the side of the slot. this disc also works 2cm deeper than the seeding tine. The seeding tines also acts as a row cleaner, it moves all crop residue to each side of the slot. this means that where the seed is to be placed, it has no crop residue meaning great soil to soil contact. The following two press wheels do a fantastic job of closing up the slot. one press wheel is directly over the seed row and the the other is placed to the side of the row to press the soil from the side, this allows for great slot closure. Also being able to adjust the coulter pressure from the cab from 1kg-280kg of coulter pressure allows you to really fine tune the machine, meaning with fields with varying soil types in each run, you can adjust the coulter pressure accordingly, so you only every apply enough pressure to close the slot but not cap it over.

The Virkar Dynamic DC really is a machine that since using it on our own farms has transformed the way we go seeding.

Looks to be doing a decent job. I wonder If using a notched leading disc would hairpin wet straw when running in softer conditions. The design is very similar to a John Deere 1890. Here they are well excepted as a benchmark for seed placement and established. They will run in most conditions ever wetter if fitted with spoked gauge wheels and there is a small crust on the surface. Would the wider row spacing not give up some yield and encourage more weed growth a more open canopy. Here going from 10 inches down to 7.5 has added to yield in cereals. Osr not much difference.

That’s a hell of a lot of straw and at today’s prices worth more then the barley
