Want to keep my BT Landline Number thats all & hopefully some FREE Calls to other Landlines
i never ring mobiles or anything else on LL anyways.

I've been using sipgate for several years and quite like them. You can get a 'free' basic service, in which you're allocated a local number and only pay for the landline/mobile calls you make. Otherwise they do a 1000 landline minutes a month plan for £6 or so. Call costs are on their website.

Unfortunately if you wanted to keep your BT number then you would have to sign up to one of their 'Team' (business) plans, which allow you to port over BT numbers, but which are more expensive per month.

There are plenty of other VoIP / SIP providers out there to choose from.

We have a bt landline with broadband i think it is £30 a month all in, line rental , free calls and call diverts to mobiles etc so that solved 1 line i have then we ported to invoco 2 other numbers these are IP but unlike what you want they are virtual numbers that divert to a mobile no , you cotrol all that from a web page and call divert cost and lack of line rental make it very cheap compared to an "real" phone lines.
Not exactly whatbyou want but you can save money on your line costs for sure
the only experience i have of actual IP was we used an mobile app to dial a local phone std code that we had briefly and there was fairly significant static and hiss on the line but not sure that its representative of all IP

Get rid of your old Bt landline number, best thing we did! It stops all the nuisance calls straight off.

I have a new number from Yay.com it's basically my old landline number in a different format.(y)

been looking at these guys,..https://www.vonage.co.uk/call-plans/ and can port landline number
bt line is crap and keeps dropping broadband

You need broadband for it to work.

Yes there is no point with SIP if you have a poor broadband connection. You need a good foundation to build on. Of course there are alternatives to the copper pair - 3G or 4G or wireless rural broadband are all good alternatives if your copper line is rubbish.

Another major benefit of a SIP connection is that it is a "trunk" connection - that means that you can be having multiple simultaneous inbound/outbound calls on the one SIP subscription - akin to having multiple landlines.

The limitations will be if your SIP provider limits the number of concurrent connections or alternatively your handset may not be able to handle any more than 2 SIP/VoIP calls simultaneously.

If you're a bit technically inclined, you can look into Asterisk (google it). Run your own phone system on free software.

do you use the app on your mobile?
can answer home calls as well ?
Phone apps on mobiles generally suck. Better to use your inclusive mobile minutes and use WiFi Calling (on supported handsets).

For "fixed line" service. The beauty with VoIP (using either a 4G service or rural WiFi service for your broadband) is you can kiss your BT land line goodbye and you only pay when you need to at a fraction of the cost of a landline. Perfek!

VoIP is the future (but it might not be ready just yet) An associate who specialises in VoIP (Voice over internet Protocol) will not sell the service to any business unless it has 2 independent broadband services.

Wifi calling on mobiles needs to be able to access broadband .

Last time I was offered a free for the first 12 months extra line for broadband for the office separate to the house the Co discovered that it was going to cost them £27000. Didn't happen [emoji26]
