Volvo XC90

So, my delightful Shogun is in for accident damage ( not caused by me!) I have a Volvo XC90 as a hire car.
What an amazing car. The Interior is perfect, the ride is super smooth, gearbox works ok ish. Lights and stereo are out of this world. If only they could put a v6/V8 diesel in it. The 4 pot does let it down. But you can really see why people prefer it over a Disco 5

Does it have pilot assist on it. If so try it on the steering wheel turn on cruise control then scroll across to it

Agreed the 4pots really leave you wanting the sound of a 6 if not needing the performance.. Interior is absolutely beautifully thought out and executed.

Update on the xc90.
Drove it to Cheshire to see the in laws. It’s averaged 38mpg ( from fuel records) . The auto pilot steering with adaptive cruise is great. Thought it a gimic at first but it reall does keep you in lane. You have to rest your hands on steering wheel so it can sense feed back. It’s similar to driving in a potato row.
If I could afford one, it would be my next choice of car

I’ve got one- as you say it’s mostly ok, but the engine and gearbox are poor, and it does my head in there is too much knee room against the door, and zero knee room against the wide centre console. It means I end up sitting offset.

It might be the way I have my seat set but and I’ve tried putting it further back but I just can’t get comfy like that either.

Having said that, for my wife to ship 3 kids 2 dogs, and all the pushchair, bikes and gubbins that goes with them- you just can’t beat it. It’s nice piece of mind that they’re in about the safest car they possibly can be and truth be told my wife loves it and I don’t actually drive it much.

Also my wife informed me it really did prevent a horrible accident when a car pulled out in front of her and she was distracted by the kids in the back. She said It pulled the anchors on, yanked the seatbelts back and sounded an alarm and red led lights in the cabin. Without it, there is no question there would have been an accident, so any shortcomings in seat position and power train are forgiven IMO.

Yes I came around a fast corner and a car was parked half in and half out of the lay-by. It brakes it’s self a split second before I did!

Stunning looking car and as mentioned, fully sorted inside too. If only better engine options. 5 cylinder diesel would be great in it again. The Chinese have done wonders with it since taking it over.

It’s a fact. Nobody has ever died in an accident in the UK in an XC90.....
When did the Chinese buy Volvo?

Several years back, they saw it as the key to quality. Bought if from ford I believe. That’s how ford came to have the 5 cylinder engine. That a great thing to be able to state that no one has ever died in one.
