Vos openers and drilling legs to use

I have a 3m Freeflow on standard tines.I am considering putting Metcalfe narrow tines to try more direct drilling,
I direct drilled some OSR this year and it worked well. Also drilled Wheat after a pass with a short disc.
Do Metcalfe tines help with trash compared to standard tine, also is there a simple option to band sow if tine numbers are reduced.
Yes would you want to keep the pigtail legs on though? If that’s the case it could work but you might be a bit disappointed also I think if you wanted to really have a go at it then change legs out also. I apprecaite that’s another cost though. They would help a bit because would be narrower but your problem is there’s too many on drill preventing trash flowing through the tines. I think your better option would maybe too look at a similar route we are doing and reducing tine numbers creating better trash flow we are going to just 4 tines per metre so your drill would have 12 tines on at spaceing of 250mm I believe that is the same on a sprinter? There’s all sorts of ways you can go but I believe unless you reduce tine numbers then never be competent at dd’ing your land consistently.

yeah they’ve come well for saying the year It’s been. Yes light bit of cultivation then on with drill did you dd with sprinter? I think your rite wouldn’t work as dd’ing very successfully as it is. I think it would work very well if you had 250mm spaceing between each leg being only 4 legs per metre this is why we are going Down the vos route. Yes your rite pretty much like A Vaderstad drill there as will work the ground why your drilling.
Yes sprinter went in direct. The only thing I have noticed is that the headlands haven’t come with the freeflow stuff at all well; it’s such a heavy drill and I was really pushing conditions...maybe I should have drilled headlands last...but I worry about slot closure when it’s like that. The sprinter on the other hand weighs 2t less empty at a guess and it treads a lot lighter and the headlands are fine in comparison. My point is your wider spacing will not only improve trash flow it will lose a lot of weight trundling about on what is quite a small diameter packer. Not only has my freeflow still got 32 coulters; it has a whole extra subframe to fix them to! Definitely a dry weather drill!
