I believe the Amarok, despite having the 8 spd ZF auto box, doesn't have low range. Is this right. I tend to use low range quite a bit and do find it useful.
Just wondered how others have managed who've ben used to a low ratio before going to an Amarok.

Reversing with a loaded trailer seems to be a bit of a issue with the Amarok. They seem to have a torque limiter in reverse, this can be mapped off to give full power in reverse. I have never had a trailer on mine and 1st is very low as already mentioned.

Only towed circa 2t with mine so far, but no issues reversing up an incline. As states 1st is like a granny gear anyway, when not towing I don’t recall going into 1st for more than a split second if taking off uphill.

I love the Amarok, so far done about 4500miles in it.......but it has not been without issues, at 70miles needed a new external temp sensor, at 3500 needed a new DPF.......

Never needed it. 1st is very low anyway, and being auto it’s got a torque converter to take up the slack if you need it any slower.

No, it's a multiplate oil immersed (dual) clutch . Not a tc. Yes they do limit torque in reverse since its higher than 1st to protect the clutch pack .

Thought the standard box was a ‘conventional’ 8-speed ZF model 8HP autobox with torque converter up front, not a DSG box.

Although they now offer a 6-speed manual in Trendline trim apparently.

No it’s not. This is a ZF 8 speed torque converter transmission fitted to an in-line engine, not to a transverse engine and dual clutch robotised manual.
There is no torque limiter as far as I know, only limit being the stall speed of the torque converter verses the available engine torque relative to the gearing.

Only had mine a couple of days so can't really help other than saying vw claim that 1st is so low geared it's equivalent to low range ......can't you go forwards up your hill? [emoji3]

Not having low box on the auto Amarok has been my decision to change to a auto hilux,The manual Amarok I have at the moment has been brilliant and Low box was used a lot but I need auto because of a bad knee! Hope the hilux is as good!
