Sorry to reopen this, been a quiet watcher for years but have registered as I need some waikato milk meters. I already have brackets.
I am after 24 but any number would be a start.

Does anyone know if the Waikato milk meters like these fit on to a pipeline like this? Wanting to properly record cows and didn’t know if these would fit the job or are they solely for Waikato parlours?

Yea very similar to how the units hang up. Do they just give you a sample worth or do you end up with quite a bit to tip away, never used one so not sure how It all works, but I can see how you fit it up from your picture

You start off with the valve in this position

You then milk the cow, some milk goes down the pipeline, and a metered amount goes into the measuring jar. Once you have noted down how much milk your cow produced, you can either pour a sample to be sent of for analysis by turning the valve downwards.

One your sample is collected, turn the valve upwards, and then press the white lever at the top of the measuring jar, and the milk in the measuring jar will get sent up the pipeline. So no wasted milk

an old fashioned simple system, installation costs ? Works perfectly well, if not easily used, but, compared to the massive costs of modern parlours, you can see why dairy farmers used to make lots of money ! Last 'shippon' system, stopped 5 years ago, near us, 25/30 cows, farmer always had lots of new machinery, to keep his tax bill down But, it does demonstrate how, by modernising, we complicate systems, at great expense ! Not saying we have to go back, but follow the expense trail, of modernising our units, makes interesting calculations ! And then think, plenty of countries still have these simple systems, and post Brexit, we may have to compete, with them, on price.

It’s a 32 tie up, we milk 45 at most. 5 untis and a dump bucket been in 60 years, could do with a bit of TLC. A herringbone parlour would be a lot faster, but cows are nice and quiet because your among them and you don’t get sh!t up which has been something I’ve not liked when I’ve milked in them. A lot of farms in America have cows in stalls, but ours don’t stay tied up all the time anymore all cubicles. It does the job well extra unit would help, Bacto scan is always low so does just the same job.

Shows how handy this forum is.
Having only ever used my Waikato milk meters for recording the cows output in litres. I was a bit stuck this morning not being able to fill the sample pots for NMR to do a cell count for me. Thankfully Google came straight here and after the first few posts I sorted my problem. .
TFF is worth its weight in gold 👍
