anyone using a wakely pto rolling mill...what are they like
TIA
TIA
I have a 350; think that's the smallest. 2t/hr is about its rate, bit more in nice bold stuff. Mine has pretty coarse settings for the intake gap so there's a big step from one to next in output (and milling quality). They might have changed this. The 2 rollers run at slightly different speeds to give a milling effect. The gears were straight-cut and you'd think they'd last forever, given their size, but had to renew them as the teeth were chewed up. Must have been a known issue as there was a deal to be done on helical-cut from them.anyone using a wakely pto rolling mill...what are they like

Im looking at a 350, local dealer has one with fluted rollers in...been speaking to wakely and they claim this one will do 5t/hour...is yours non fluted rollers? How old is yours?I have a 350; think that's the smallest. 2t/hr is about its rate, bit more in nice bold stuff. Helpful over the phone with tips to improve quality/output (pointed me towards bolts to keep murder tight).
Suppose it's 5/6 year old. Rollers are a bit of headscratch... When new it had 2 different rollers - one flat with flutes on the non-drive side(?), other ribbed. When the gears went, somehow it broke a shaft (don't know how, didn't even know it was gone) on the non-drive side. He sent a ribbed one with a gap every so often to replace it; said this was what was now fitted to both sides. No significant difference in output. Maybe I'm being fussy, but there's not much point feeding whole barley. Must say that it'll do dry maize/beans for fun; if the beans in the mid 20s of % just need to go very steady to avoid them sticking, but that's hardly the machine's fault.Im looking at a 350, local dealer has one with fluted rollers in...been speaking to wakely and they claim this one will do 5t/hour...is yours non fluted rollers? Ok thanks, they might of updated it now...does yours roll the barley flat or shatter it?Suppose it's 5/6 year old. Rollers are a bit of headscratch... It breaks it up, but not into dust unless really dry (<14), nice size for feeding. Suppose it would make more of a rolling job at 17/18%.Ok thanks, they might of updated it now...does yours roll the barley flat or shatter it?
Ok cheers...He reckons with the fluted rollers it'll break it up not roll it flat but will roll more tons per hourIt breaks it up, but not into dust unless really dry (<14), nice size for feeding. Suppose it would make more of a rolling job at 17/18%.
My pile is about done so mill will be going tomorrow. Will take a pic of the rollers if I can - would like to hear how they compare as more output would be useful. PIA finding jobs for between bucketfuls, but never able to get stuck into something.Ok cheers...He reckons with the fluted rollers it'll break it up not roll it flat but will roll more tons per hour
Thanks. Be interesting to seeMy pile is about done so mill will be going tomorrow. Will take a pic of the rollers if I can - would like to hear how they compare as more output would be useful. PIA finding jobs for between bucketfuls, but never able to get stuck into something.
Too big for me that model but thanksWas down seeing this work on a friends farm and impressed by it now.
Pressure was screwed back a bit due to stones as it was flat but was properly crushing it.

@Kevtherev posted some pictures recently, think he was sub contracting for @fieldingWas down seeing this work on a friends farm and impressed by it now.

There's nowt wrong with that machine, @fielding would put a better tractor on the front.View attachment 492870
Stick to your wakeley mill

Thanks for taking the time to take pics and post them....it looks from the pic like you're milling the barley more than rolling it? And is that heap all it's done in 3.5 hours?!Pics of:-
- Old broken roller than came out
- Old knackered gears
- Coarse notches in metering flap
- Sample of processed dry wheat
- Current rollers
- 3.5 hrs work - can't see there being 10t
I'd make sure you had a demo before relying on it doing 5t/hr.
No probs. Yes, the dry stuff is pretty much milled, as coarse as I can make it without whole grains to save gut load. Like to be 50:50 barley/wheat but barley getting scarce. Spuds helping at mo. That small heap is a hopperfull; that and what's pushed up behind was 14:00 to 19:00, with 1.5 hr gap doing beans. It won't quite hold a 2 cubic metre bucket, so 1.5t, and that'll do it for a good half hour. Let's say 1.25t x 2 per hour --> 2.5t/hr. Is it Phelam you're talking to?Thanks for taking the time to take pics and post them....it looks from the pic like you're milling the barley more than rolling it? Think it was old man wakely, been looking at the superior equivalent which is considerably less moneyNo probs.
