Wales BPS replacement

This is a really interesting graphic from that report. Now I don't know what the 2% of extinct were but of those 17% threatened I'd wager a smaller amount is a result of agriculture and an even smaller amount of those are closer to extinction.

The sentiment about food having a market value so they don't want to subsidise it is quite interesting. Of course food does have a market value but by and large via farm gate it is pretty marginal. Interesting times ahead!

I'd struggle to feel motivated to contribute my land to the "national forest" at the moment!

English farmers taking about ELM's and how crap it is.

Does anyone know what it due to happen in Wales with regards to BPS?

When it is due to end and what is replacement is likely to be?

They have been supposed to be publishing/consulting on more details very soon, but it’s been ‘very soon’ for some time.

I don’t think that we currently know any more than the original consultations, which I have to say NFU Cymru did a cracking job of getting out there, with series of roadshow meetings around the country.

Apparently we have to plan for the future, but without knowing what we need to plan for/against. :banghead:
I would expect something along the lines of a mix of ELMS and Glastir, but with a bit of extra complication thrown in.

I think it will be back to some old style Tir Gofal stuff too. I expect all of it to be below the cost of production and interested to see how they are going to motivate farmers to help with the "climate crisis" and whats the other one "fifth great extinction" or something

I have heard multiple times, how the new schemes will allow the powers that be to pay us a margin on enviro works, rather than ‘income foregone’, which was forced on government by those nasty people at the EU.

We’ll see.

I’d like to see a strengthening of our research and development along the lines of Teagasc in Ireland.

Farming connect could be bolstered to make a real difference as it is already there as a structure.

Connecting with all BPS registered farmers in Wales to give them first class support would allow farmers to gain more income from the market and extra resources to farm in and environmentally friendly way.

National NVZ is one subject which if WAG want it to work they have to throw a blank cheque at upgrading every working farms infrastructure regarding muck and slurry storage.

Without taking this approach they will not get the expected outcomes!

unfortunately when it comes right down to it, Labour, partly don't like and certainly don't get the countryside and farmers.
Taking a look at the top 4 positions in the cabinet i.e Prime Minister, Chancellor, Home Secretary, Health minister - how many
would you say have a valid view of agriculture ???
