how do people get on with lambs getting mixed up using walkthrough feeders after lambing ., we generally feed in troughs for first few days , some have come up locally
Simple, after lambing I don’t put them anywhere near walk through feeders. They just make for a sodding nightmare of a headache. Constant bleating because they are on the wrong side! I’d stick too feeding in troughs post lambing if I were you budhow do people get on with lambs getting mixed up using walkthrough feeders after lambing ., we generally feed in troughs for first few days , some have come up locally

thats what i thought , most go out within a few days , but there is always that few that stay in . suppose i could put some 6x4 mesh down one side to split the shed up be able to feed one side okSimple, after lambing I don’t put them anywhere near walk through feeders. Pre lambing I don’t think there is anything better. But the moment the lambs are out they cause problems. Even if it’s lamb 1 climbing into it and getting lost in the next pen of 30 ewes while the ewe has lamb 2. Generally encouraged by the stupid bint in there who is after everyone’s lambs while she is still 2 weeks from lambing herself! But they do make it easy to see what is going on without disturbing the sheep.
Do you like getting tripped up while carrying 40kg of nuts?-how do people get on with lambs getting mixed up using walkthrough feeders after lambing ., we generally feed in troughs for first few days , some have come up locally

It makes for right good sport usually! My mum and dad have a working teckel pack. Never seen anything that can touch them for ratting! Apart from Grandma’s prize poodle stud dog years ago…Its twenty yrs since i changed to feed barriers
Rats like to live under walk thru feeders too
we use those mexican hat type feeders , had a few heavy galv ones made up as well , can chuck it in from a distance , 3 or 4 a pen put in ones with no cross bars firstDo you like getting tripped up while carrying 40kg of nuts?-
Yesi reckon most lambing troubles happen by ewes fighting for food.....i used to get in a pen and get swept to the other side........gotta get at least some fed remotely before entering IMO
Now that sounds a good set up! I see these huge pens and think “what a waste of floor space” biggest problem is always getting enough feed space for the amount of ewes in the pensYes
I used to keep 800 inside, all fed on one side of ten foot wide pens. Fed on the front with silage and cereal
I was going too say they look like proper leg breakers!we use those mexican hat type feeders , had a few heavy galv ones made up as well , can chuck it in from a distance , 3 or 4 a pen put in ones with no cross bars first

Pens were 40ft by 10 ft, with about 35 ewes in each i think, so all could eat at once. Now that sounds a good set up! I see these huge pens and think “what a waste of floor space” biggest problem is always getting enough feed space for the amount of ewes in the pens
never had any issues , most dont have the bars on ,just weighing up if rolls might be better this year on the floorI was going too say they look like proper leg breakers!
