Warmth

One of the most unpleasant days today, temp never got above 3'C and the wind was relentless, any green grass has now gone brown from the persistent frosts and high winds.
Lambing is a constant battle to keep ssheep fed and prevent hypothermia in the lambs.

My neighbour wanted to go drilling beans but discovered the ground was too frozen.

Unfortunately Northern areas look like they will have to wait a while longer just yet.
Things are changing but more slowly than first expected.Biggest fear for late lambers up here is the associated precip the warmer conditions bring.

I was thinking how much it had warmed up today, after the frost had lifted by late morning, then I noticed the snow still sitting under the hedgerows. It's all relative I suppose. How will we cope if we actually hit double figures next week?

Today has been one of the coldest here this year i would say, real strong wind and light snow on and off most of the day.
Real bitter.
would be nice to go out side in shirt sleeves woudnt it!!
biggest shock is sitting behind the glass it feels nice and warm outside, then you open the door !!!

When you thought yesterday was bad, today has been worse.
Constant rain sleet and snow with a driving wind and the temperature 2'C, beginning to lose hope in that warmer weather!!

Lambing is a b*****y nightmare.

just watched simons latest video ,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8XUElW8OIg&feature=em-uploademail , although looking better , the piece at the end about 1962 is scary if it goes back cold the same , which was cold till july , with forage stocks very low, crops ruined by this early wet then cold , could be hard severe and very expensive winter later .

When meteorologists start quoting historical data you may as well ask mystic meg for the weather forecast

Simon is pretty accurate over the year and his daily updates are very welcome , certainly more so than a certain weather forum i visit , and the quote was only comparing historical data with todays set-up .

The long range forecasts issued in February early March have certainly been miles off!!. No one said we were heading for one of the Coldest Springs on record. Mystic Meg may have more idea

Was hoping this thread had gone to bed till next back end.Not a chance looking at the last few days outputs,we are in store for a very cold Arctic blast beginning this weekend.
these outputs have held steady for days now and are in real time.lowest upper air temps I've ever seen for March (-14c) even colder than anything we had winter past.
Saturday is the start day then where we go is anyone's guess.
fully expect all March records regards cold and snow to be broken if this comes off as currently showing.
