Does a tractor have to be serviced by a dealer during warranty ?
I believe it just has to be done by a vat registered form using genuine parts and oils can anyone clarify for me please ?

Three parts to this answer.
1. For simplicity and lack of argument come warranty claim time, it's better to get it serviced by the main dealer.
2. Whilst under "manufacturer" warranty cover you can get a qualified mechanic and use genuine parts, if there is a warranty argument it will be up to you to demonstrate that it was serviced to manufacturer specification, i.e. Calibration etc is hard to do without the hardware/software.
3. Extended warranty isn't technically "manufacturer" warranty, and in the T+C's it will stipulate main dealer servicing and this will have to be done by a main dealer, any deviation from this will invalidate the warranty.

So if short answer is yes.

Have 3 year warranty on my T6, been told by dealer that supplying dealer has to carry out servicing under base warranty (year 1).in the extended years, in my case years 2 and 3, any CNH dealer can perform the servicing.

I don’t actually think that’s correct problem is bloody things are so dear can’t take the risk

Manufacturers warranty is stipulated that dealer servicing must be carried out but legally cannot be voided or refused as long as genuine parts and equivalent oils are used and a “competent , person carries out the work.
Extended warranties are different they are generally not a Manufacturers warranty but an insurance policy type warranty and such are legally a different entity so a mandatory servicing package can be enforced as it is part of the written contract that you sign up to when accepting the extended warranty.
In short manufacturers warranty servicing cannot be enforced the same as cars but extended insurance type warranties can as it is part of the contract and enforceable .
Extended warranty can be refused if you cannot prove you have a adheared to the service contract as it forms part and parcel of the overall contract to supply the warranty .

So I assume it's different to car/van etc warranty? Because those can be done by any registered garage using genuine parts with zero question. Think some years ago government even stepped in to enforce it

Thats standard legal warranty all new machines have to provide, when you go into extended warranty the manufacturer can do as they please with the terms as it is the manufacturer offering extenstion there is no legal obligation for them to offer it.

Was just looking at Claas Maxi Care Extended Warranty it states that only original Claas Parts and lubricants be used, the work must be carried out by a fully Claas trained technician who has access to the necessary updated technical product information. That would rule out a former Claas mechanic that has went out on his own as Claas would claim they weren't up to date.

There's probably a cost point where not having dealership do the service, and doing it yourself, would pay off. Obviously anything major mechanical like gearbox blowing up would be a loss but little niggles? Dunno if dealers are charging 1k for a service soon pays for a lot of break downs... But then would be no point taking the extended warranty in first place so 🤷

Don't forget a lot of that price will be for oils' filters etc so doing it yourself or using a slightly cheaper mechanic might not save as much as you think.
Plus you wouldn't get software updates or any new updated parts.

I will admit we don't own any of the newest tractors, latest one being a 2012 7530, but aftermarket filters are £15-30 each depending which, 60L of UTTO about £120. We run 4 tractors and I'd say costs at most 200 a year/each. Have always fixed breakdowns ourselves, from stripping axles to replace bearings/breaks to splitting for clutch/gearbox niggles... Maybe new kit is too complicated for that now days.

But again, don't run anything fancy that needs new software etc, reading what I do on here don't think ever want to lol!
