Thanks @Wilksy
I got to watch part of the last program as I noticed your post 👍

I used to really enjoy these programs when they were on in the past, it's very much like what my late father's life was on the farm he grew up on.

He was brought up on a rented hill farm and he was even in the Home guard, chief hill scout, well looking after the families hill sheep was his thing.

Maybe there should be a What's on TV Tonight, section ??
Just an idea.

there used to be but it fizzled out.

Watched a couple of hours of it. Very interesting. I'm sure their will be a few comments about a Field Marshall of early 50's vintage portrayed as wartime. Did anyone notice when they were watching "WarAg" films the comment on the film something like "when its all over lets not forget the people on the land"?
I think what was said was nearer to 'lets not forget the peole who farm the land again' - almost indicating that previously, the farming community had not been uppermost in the countries' thoughts. It occurred to me how things are cyclical.

I missed the first episode but I’ve recorded the rest, my grandad was a farm labourer pre war and was employed as a groom at the outbreak of war so had to go, he came back and farmed into his seventy’s, I’ve read bits and bobs on here about war ag and found it very interesting looking forward to a wet day to watch it

Incidentally, the Acton Scott farm museum where the 'Victorian Farm' series was filmed with the same cast is in serious danger of being closed by Shropshire County Council. Hopefully a private/group operator will be found that will run it with a bit more business acumen!
I thought it was owned by the estate owner. The old chap and his son were on the series weren't they?

I missed to watch the credits - where was 'Wartime Farm' filmed?

Answered my own question

Manor Farm Country Park

The series, the fourth in the historic farm series, following the original, Tales from the Green Valley, was made for the BBC by independent production company Lion Television in association with the Open University, and was filmed at Manor Farm Country Park close to Southampton.

Having just looked at the Manor farm Country Park website, it looks far better managed than Acton Scott - which is a wonderful place but the Council havent got a clue about how to adapt and run a successful business! In private hands it would be a winner! The staff and the facility are great but managed by inept muppets I am afrai. Apologies - drifting away from the original post

Acton Scott is one of my favourite places and has been for the last thirty years. I can see that Shropshire Council probably aren't the best organisation to run it , the e-coli outbreak traced to there being the last straw for them☹. It will be such a pity if it can't find a new operator. Is it just the small acreage just around the buildings that the Council rent ? @ploughman1963 ?

This barn was dismantled from a farm in our village and rebuilt at Manor Farm.

Yes, not a large acreage. You only have to look at how somewhere like manor farm or other successful attractions operate/how they have developed their offering to see why they are successful. A private operator would have to have adapted or gone under several years ago.

I do like Victorian farm as a series, albeit a bit twee at times. What annoys the hell out me though is why Ruth Goodman has to collapse in that silly hysterical laughter so often in every programme when nothing remotely amusing has happened?

Apart from this I enjoy watching it. Just need to cover my ears when a tree falls or she arrives in the field with tea.
