took daughter back to nottingham uni today....on way out radcliffe area....good wide road there was a jd with drill .....coupla cars behind him waiting to overtake.....i sat back another 30 yds out slightly ...i reasoned i could see ahead better than the two cars and when opportunity arose could quickly close the gap......anyhow next thing irrate artic driver.....could see the 'daf' up close in my wing mirror....temporarily dumbstruck i pull over just as first car starts overtaking deere.....artic steams past ...gets behind 2nd car and they all JUST make it

SO :scratchhead: was i wrong to hang back? should i just gone straight up behind cars?

edit..forgot to say i got airhorns to

It’s an artic, speed limits are optional for them

i've greatest respect for hgv drivers.....in fact i think they're more professional now than they were in 1970s/80s...lot more courteous + can do IMO.....this guy wasn't though....i can tell more tales later......but i was thinking....i'm entitled to drive how i think best but is the 'protocol' if theres a line of traffic you drive nose to tail :scratchhead:

No I always hang back a bit so when you see there is a gap coming you can accelerate and take less time to get by, probably safer being behind that artic

You should have been paying more attention to your mirrors. Especially as you were considering the big jump.

maybe.....didn't get the airhorns til he was going past if thats what you mean :scratchhead:

ok bit more of the story....i get past jd/drll soon after and turns out we're headed same way.....the company is well known outfit outta posh;)......so coupla junctions later another hapless car in front of him gets the airhorns which makes me feel better somehow:bag:

eventually he's stuck behind a car towing a catering trailer and me behind....i'm bit ticked off TBH cos i don't react well if i think someone's trying to bully me:bag:....i'm still a bit back but make sure i can see his mirror so he can see me.......anyhoo we're on quite a bit normal road then it widens temporarily to help a right hand turn off.....'daffy' see's this as a chance and overtakes car with catering trailer....unfortunately there's an empty car transporting artic trying to turn right.....he's nearly into the back of it....cue airhorns.....car with trailer brakes....car transporter just turns enough and 'daffy' scrapes through

soon after that he turns off onto a1 ...i'm still pee'd so give blast on my horn as i undertake:bag: and get airhorns back
