I was rather alarmed a few years ago when the Fire Service came round checking that ponds and other non-mains water sources were still as mapped, to learn that if the pond had great crested newts in it they wouldn't touch it. And we know that our mains is cr*p as when neighbour had a barn fire (lightning strike) they had to bowser water in.
Practically every pond in this area has GCN in in the breeding season.

I can assure you. Whatever may be currently trendy in some office in HQ, if there is a pressing need for large quantities of water, newts would come a long way down our priority list.

Lol, that's where the IC's "operational discretion" comes into play!

Thanks JP I know , Exam was at 7:30 in the morning I just wasn't thinking straight .
My einsatz was RTU with HGV with people trapped under it .
Went in like a bull in a china shop ,went through it by the numbers .
I thought damm that was easy ,until my examiner asked if I had missed anything ????
The HGV was carrying poisen and I handn't seen the danger sign on the back of the model .
End result we were all dead !!!!!!! Major mistake I shouldn't have made .
Still will crack it next time .

We've all done it

I was leaving my village to go to my Uncle's funeral last Monday lunchtime and came across a car RTC with a Suzuki Jimmy on it's side having done a 180 after being side swiped at a X-roads.

Folks said they'd called 999 etc but your training still kicks in, you do the 360 and I decided to call it in to the Fire and Rescue service using the call dictation protocol so I knew the right resources were on their way. Then there were folks who were saying she doesn't look too bad let's lift her out, folks talking to her but encouraging her to respond and inadvertently move her neck etc

What I'm saying is; let your training keep you to the full protocol, one day it may well save you or someone's life

You'll be grand next time and I bet you weren't the first to be caught out in the adrenalin rush especially when you are under the added pressure of being assessed

We have one practical on our Incident Command course that even the instructors call "the curse of the train". Scenario is simple. Train stopped across a level crossing with a car in the side. Casualty in the car, and a single crew paramedic already treating the casualty. When we pull up, the guy playing the paramedic is waving like heck for you to come get the casualty out. If you let any of your crew go in the heat of the moment, or worse send them, it's an instant fail because only the track authority can give assurance the line is stopped. Although the beggars usually let you get half way through the extrication before announcing a high speed train has just crashed into the back and everyone is now dead.

So it's not just you.
