 Hope they all make a full and quick recovery.

Our old Merc appliance used to be grand when the tank was full or empty, but part full handling could be dicey. The MAN has the tank down lower and is a heavier machine so doesn't seem to be as affected.

And then on top of that, in training they send you in to search a steel building that has a fire burning downstairs, in order to "rescue" a 50 or 60kg casualty dummy.
I have a lot of respect for female colleagues in this situation, being asked to carry close to their bodyweight in kit, then do heavy work in difficult conditions.
We are due to be issued a lighter weight 2nd kit for road traffic collisions/technical rescue/grass fires. Not quite sure how it's going to work, because theory is we will still have to carry our heavyweight fire kit on the appliance in case of getting a running call to a property fire. And we're supposed to fit that where on the machine..?

We've got a new hot fire training facility, and using it recently the hardest wear i had was dragging charged 45mm hose down into the fire compartment then dragging two casualties back out up stairs, hell was I hot when i got out!! We've got wild fire suits for Heath fires etc. Never used them yet

Charged 45 and bringing casualties out upstairs under hot fire conditions? That's hardcore fair play. Only use hosereels at our hot fire training.

Had my BA refresher a month past, it incorporates an entanglement box now too. We have moved up to 300 bar sets & it was noticeable how much further into the building you could clear in a single wear.

Thanks JP I don't know how a Gruppenführer translates back to english .
Basicaly if I pass I will be responsible for 8 fire fighters or the number one on the LF .
A group over here is 9 men/women , the basic compliment of a ........... fire engine
It's a big step to take , but what the hell I am a truppführer now and that is not easy
so I guess it is the obvious step to take , plus I need that rank to take my station officers
exam in December .

Good luck, I did out equivalent at Gullane (used to be the Scottish Fire Services College before we became one big happy family & they closed it to move to Glasgow) a few years ago. Daunting at first but an enjoyable course.
