Is it my imagination or is there more wasps around this year, cured 2 nests in field across from house and found 5 queens while cleaning out gutters. A lot flying about while lifting spuds.

Wasps did well this year because there was no blackthorn winter here. when the queens came out of hibernation in the spring they were able to develop nests without any check or being wiped out by late frosts

Killed 6 nests in buildings one night this year, varying from tennis ball to football size. I don't mind them out in the field but when you can't get access to buildings or they start coming into the bedroom at 6am, action is needed.

Worst is when you start filling the silage clamp and find a nest when you are trying to put the side sheets in place.

Damn things.

A new delight we are now getting here (and no doubt will be heading your way) courtesy of climate change, are Asian hornets. They seem to get a lot more aggressive than ordinary hornets in the late summer and early autumn and are not to be messed with.
