Water troughs

Just on pricing up options for water troughs for cubicle crossover passages.

Looking at either tipping troughs or the rapid empty ones with the large bung on the base.

What would folks recommend and is there any issues with either design? I like the rapid empty troughs from Teemore as they can be scrubbed out whilst the water is emptying, but they lack capacity compared to a tipping trough which is a concern for us with crappy water pressure.

Galv vs stainless steel?? I know stainless will last longer and the water keep fresher, but at nearly £200 difference for a 2m trough I would be struggling to justify it!

@Kingofgrass what did you go for in your new building?

Thanks

Stainless you won’t regret it we’re replacing all ours at the moment. You won’t regret it. Should have had stainless troughs in the parlour as well. Steer clear of Teemore.

Teemore stainless 4m big bung in one shed. Fine if you can live with the slightly rough finish and their appalling ball valves - ditch these pdq and fit standard rapid fill ones from any DIY or Ag merchant

However by far & away the best troughs we have are Jyden Bur from Denmark

http://www.jydendirect.com/water-systems-cattle/

mind you the collapse of the pound against the euro has messed this up. Our 2m & 4m Jydens were 00s of £s cheaper than UK stainless when we bought ours.
Note that they do other cattle stuff too so if you can put a package together, you might be able to do a deal.

Have deep tipping troughs here, not a fan. Unless your tipping them out daily the water gets stagnant quick.

Do these shallow stainless troughs manage to keep up with housed cows on a hot day even with good water pressure? Certainly seem to be a better product from a freshness point of view...

To put things in perspective, this is a building for 8,000litre mainly autumn calving cows housed for 150days, not an 11,000 litre fully housed Holstein herd.

I totally get what people are saying regarding stainless troughs, but this is a rented farm on a non-aligned contract so unfortunately there is not an unlimited budget and you have to ask yourself where do you draw the line and compromise?? If I went for the gold standard option for every element of the shed then I will quickly be spending over £2k per cow place which isn't sustainable
