waterproof trousers and jackets

Do these gortex leggings let you sit on a wet seat and do they put up with kneeling on wet ground?
Yes.
Best place to get them is eBay, buy new ones.
Sizes are in NATO sizes, google will translate them for you.

I spend a lot of time kneeling or sitting in fields in horrendous weather, I never get wet legs, seat or knees wearing MOD goretex trousers.
Never had one of the jackets, I buy Laksen jackets either in sales or second hand. Pricey but warm and dry

I used all the available goretex when I was in the Army and as surplus since leaving and, if you can get it cheap enough, it's alright. But... I've just been using my Kaiwaka stormforce kit for the first time today and it is very, very good. It breathes well and is comfortable. If it is as tough as it seems and has a reputation for being it is a winner - also doesn't need to be reproofed ever, which is a definite plus for me.

Various threads already on here.
I got a pair of gortex RAF surplus leggings off eBay.

This year? New or used?
I had mine last winter and still good up to now. That's outlasting the Delamere's I used before, and a bit cheaper.
I'm all ears for anything that is any better for half sensible money, but I'm pretty fussy about leggings and they've got to be light and cool to wear as I wear them all the time in winter.

I have some over trousers that were borrowed from the USMC. They have good pocket slits, big thigh pockets and calf zips so you can put on without taking your boots off. Completely waterproof and hard wearing.

I also have a matching set of over trousers and jacket, similar to realtree but I forget the brand.

For non-cammo situations I also have a matrix bib & brace and jacket set, which is very warm and very dry in the worst wind and rain. Bought it specifically for Norway in February.

Bib & brace is the best for keeping draughts out if you're bending down all the time.

I have some army goretex overtrousers - they don't withstand kneeling etc. I think any "breathable" material fails when it gets contact or abrasion - they are perfect if all you do is stand around in the rain, but as soon as you start doing things, rubbing against things etc, the waterproofing mechanism starts to breakdown. Also lanolin from sheep etc will stop it working properly.
I bought a Navy supposedly goretex jacket which was utterly rubbish - water came in on the shoulders.
One army thing I do have that I like is the MTP MVP Waterproof smock - it is an army jacket but has a waterproof liner on inside, so the outer fabric gets wet but you don't, and the waterproof liner gets less abrasion so should last longer (in theory). Perfect for barbed wire and brambles etc. Downside is it is rather heavy when wet.
I'd like to try the Stormforce stuff, but I'll have to wait for all my existing stuff to expire first...
