Nephew is over there too, currently in Minnesota waiting to head south.
some of the pictures he’s sending home are awesome, 9 new Combines delivered 2 weeks ago and a workshop to be jealous of and miles of flat ground.
but they’re worried they won’t finish drilling their spring crops before they need to start harvest in Texas. Apparently still snow on the ground in canada and a dust bowl down south.

As a Welsh hill farmer, I learned that when I visited an estancia in the Andean foothills which ran 140,000 merinos!
I was thinking I would fit straight in with the workforce except for the fact that I can't ride a horse.
Did u learn pretty damn quick ? Left , right, kick to go, pull to stop !
That’s all I’ve done for 45 plus yrs on the gee gee’s !😂

It’s all relative, if some foreign student came and worked a summer at Velcourt or JSR farms they might think that is the norm for how British ag is structured…

On the cattle side of things, I remember Robert Robinson going to Montana to look at Stabilisers 20 years or so ago and the USDA told him the average beef herd size was 50 cows - much the same as the UK, the ranches he visited also had the same rental equivalent per cow as his own uk based operation.

One thing I've noticed on their equivalent of the 'farmers forum' is
when prices are low and the weather is crap they moan as much as
any UK farmer.
If true this is unacceptable. We must all get over to the drought/flood thread and reclaim our national pastime!

The problem with our droughts is they happen so quick you don't always notice them. They're the most dangerous ones.
