Son is doing the USA harvest this year ,he has been over there since mid March in South Dakota getting things ready .Yesterday he moved to a different place to help them sow corn ,its only 100000 acres and they have 14000 to sow in 14 days .This chap also has another 100000 acres in Montana

but they’re worried they won’t finish drilling their spring crops before they need to start harvest in Texas. Apparently still snow on the ground in canada and a dust bowl down south.

How many smaller family units as this sort of expansion put out of business, village communities destroyed, how many dairy farmers in this country would go back to making a good living out of 50 cows and meeting all their farming friends in a crowded village pub, after a good days harvesting,

It’s all relative, if some foreign student came and worked a summer at Velcourt or JSR farms they might think that is the norm for how British ag is structured…
On the cattle side of things, I remember Robert Robinson going to Montana to look at Stabilisers 20 years or so ago and the USDA told him the average beef herd size was 50 cows - much the same as the UK, the ranches he visited also had the same rental equivalent per cow as his own uk based operation.
