we are still in house when we should be out

I have said here before that the neighbour reported me and my brother to the landlord for understocking and not keep fences good and he now has an extra 30 acres and the rest of the ground is rented to someone 20 miles away..... me and my brother should have been out by June 2017 but we are still here and we have heard nothing at all …. we have been here since 1962 and I just like to add that the neighbour is one these know it all types and I hope he takes after his grandfather!!… in the early 60's his grandfather was on the BBC farming on Sunday programme showing how good a farmer he was but very soon after he sold up because he was broke

Just because nothing has happened so far doesn't mean it won't. If you are living in the house beyond the end of your tenancy, or a notice to quit, then I think you can expect the landlord to be taking steps to repossess the house at some point in the not too distant future. It takes time for solicitors to sort out the paperwork for evictions, they will need to follow certain steps and then get a court order, all of which takes time, especially at this time of year when just about every office is denuded of staff by holidays.

If you think you have a decent case to contest an eviction notice then you should be taking some legal advice sharpish. Or you need to start making provision to move (ie somewhere to move to) because one way or another I doubt the landlord is going to just let you live there for nothing for ever. He will be taking action towards eviction at some point and you need to be ready for when that happens. Burying your head in the sand is not going to end well.

thanks for reply... I have just phoned local councillor and he said if we were going to be evicted it would have happened by now but he did say that it all very strange right from the start … I am thinking that it could be the landlord is afraid of squatters moving in because we have private water supply which even now with dry spell there is plenty or it could be that they have not carried out correct procedure

So, why didn't you leave by June 2017.... ?
Seen it before, those that occupy rented property for a long time convince themselves that they are the owners.
A fantastic advert for short term FBT's.

If the landlord has applied to the courts for an eviction order, that can take up to two months to come through. So the fact that a month or so after the deadline you haven't heard anything is not unlikely. When was your actual date to quit?

Maybe the landlord has a heart and is not a mercenary....maybe he doesn’t employ an agent? Maybe it’s not in his best interest to evict ? Does startinghandle offer/pay any rent? If the status quo suits both party’s there’s no issue but don’t rely on things not changing dramatically and without warning at some stage.

there is something strange about our case right from the start .. we were on a low rent because we have been here for many years and the neighbour who reported us is paying at least double but the reason we are still here is a mystery.. at no time have we ever thought we are owners of the property but I intend to find out all details and if there is anything sinister I will contact national farming press

Have you been given notice to go ?

I would imagine one day you'll have a knock on the door and be down the road there and then. It's a very long winded and expensive job. Can't see why you're still there when you've been given notice to quit.
