Yeah bull calves at 250 for blues, Hereford hfr half reared wanting a good home but healthy 60! Didn’t watch it all but looked to be some cheap things about if you kept your eyes open, the weanlings at 380 needed to be seen to be believed if you know what I mean, they probably would of made more if they’d of seen more TLC

Yeah bit risky with disease issue’s rearing calves if you’ve already got cattle but it’s tempting! Not a bad way to start off if your younger person looking to get some stock round you, when they can be bought cheap that is. Cleanliness is next to godliness when rearing calves, it’s not a job to be done half hearted is it! I reared quite a few after foot an mouth when they low an built up from there, I enjoyed it then but I was young an enthusiastic then, I’m older greyer an fatter now??

If they have passed a pre movement test most of us are happy to purchase tbh and under 42 day calves wouldnt be there if the farm was down with tb so the same applies
Still a risk though, we’re currently on 6 month testing as neighbour took a heifer to Welsh show and brought Tb back even though all the animals at the show should have been pre and post movement tested

Takes abit of believing that one would pick it up at a show and that a show animal would be shedding the virus that strong, more likely the animal had it all along but im not doubting your comments. I have bought the good, cheap and ugly from all over and couldnt pin any of my tb outbreaks on any of them, mostly caused by badgers i didnt know i had.

they reckoned our strain was from Derbyshire, as we are in somerset, and not had cattle from up there ????12 weeks later, told me the cultures were negative, after 3 attempts to culture tb !!!!!! What do you do. On the subject of tb, chap has been down from Scotland, buying cattle, from a tb hotbed farm, that surprisingly went clear, some people have to be seen, to be believed, glad i'm not his neighbour in Scotland.

Yes,we got dragged into having to test as a neighbouring farmer who decided to buy calves from every Tom,Dick and Harry in Cheshire and unsurprisingly had a reactor.

Its fricking annoying for everyone in the area who then has to test......

That’s what I thought but was talking to the vet and they did the culture test and could tell exactly where it came from.
Isn’t that the whole point with Tb that it can hide in cattle and suddenly show itself, makes you wonder if shows should be allowed to mix low and high risk cattle from all over and then take them home
