Weather Forecasting ?

I remember a while back reading that the BEEB had changed from the Met. Office to a cheaper supplier for it's forecasts. This last while,(in this neck of the woods anyway), the long range forecast is not worth looking at, (up to 10 days), they are OK up to a couple of days ahead, but beyond that they are useless. It makes it very hard to plan ahead for hay or anything of that nature, as they can't seem to get it anywhere near right. How do others find it?

there is theory that a bank holiday weekend forecast will be inaccurate and dispensed through rose tinted glasses.
the spending hoards will stay put if the forecast is bad.
it is a theory that i believe is true

I can't help but think the BBC forecast has actually been better since they left the Met.... We all know bank holidays are usually written off anyway. Or as soon as you want to mow for hay it will rain.

I have found the BBC forecast to be pretty good for the next few days.

I use weatheronlines 14 day forecast for the medium range and weatherweb for longer range.

The thing with any forecast is to check it regularly and only rely on it when it sticks to the same story for a period of time.

All forecasts seem to only be good for that day
Last year we had a great forecast, lots of sun and 25 degrees for a week, we mowed our hay on the first day of the "heatwave" then it rained for 3 days solid! Nobody had forecasted it until 12 hours before

I've been hanging on every forecasters word for the last week.

Today has been a good example,in the run up the graphics showed a front passing over us indicating a period of heavier showers, enough to stop us for maybe 12 hours.

It was only on last nights run it showed a weaker drizzly band as I suspected it might be.

Really annoying when you are making a decision to cut or not, spread or not, especially if it's only because the forecaster thinks it looks prettier with a few brighter colours thrown in.

Except I think its true that they still use the Met at the moment.

I also think its true that statistically the Met Office are the most accurate forecasters ( vying for top spot with the ECMWF ) although I dont know for sure

BBC forecast no rain last night, as did all of them in fact but iPhone said there was a low chance this morning. However it just felt like rain... so baled the few acres of hay I had left and got it in by 10 last night. Got woken up by the soaking wet cat at 5am... we've not had a soaking but enough to have done damage. We need a lot more though. Grass has all burnt off [emoji17]

Ive found the WeatherProHD app very good, used it for a couple of years now.
The more you look at the more confused you get !!
Use it too. They use/are the same provider, MeteoGroup, as the BBC now uses.

I quite like the layout of the 14-day forecast, each day on a separate line. Then tap on a day to drill down to the hourly forecast. The sister app AlertsPro is pretty good too.

I use met office app or pc based version for looking at the pressure chart a dark cloud for the next day doesn't tell me anything. I want to know what time its going to rain not what day!

The beebs was and still is secondhand information all loved up. If its going to be 26 degrees they will say 27 or if possible drizzle they will say rain to cover their asses

So far this year where I am the BBC seems to predict rain which mysteriously never materialises. Annoying when you're planning spraying or trying to bale hay.
