well to be honest it would be hard for it to get worse although next weekend looks abysmal nationwide.
Simon do you have any insight on why our weather has been so poor well since april 2012 really. So far as i can see our weather has become more dominated in the last few years by more high pressure to the northwest or north-often referred to as northern blocking in the forums i follow.Ths blocking seems tomean lows are more inclined to come our way-no doubt in conjunction with a more southerly tracking jet which seems to have become more common also.Could this be caused by increased artic ice melt??and is it something we have got to get used to or could it just be a cycle.??(probabaly deserves a separate topic thread really)

Hi Einstein,

Yes, much is down to the blocking pattern of recent years. This has been placing higher than usual pressure north of the UK and has forced the jet stream south of its normal position. Hence conditions have been cooler and wetter as the low pressure systems are further south.

Last spring the block was almost over the UK and this lead to the dry spell from February to April.

I do think the overall pattern change in around 2007 and what we have now is a knck-on from that. It may be a pattern we have to get used to for a few years yet!

I'll do a musing about it when I get chance.

Simon
