we'll today I have had the GD on demo, got the sumo dts on Monday.

Well back to the GD drill.......

I drilled spring wheat into some variable soil, limestone brash at the bottum of the hill then onto some wet high magnesium clay on the hill side. The previous crop was winter wheat sprayed off due to black grass..

I am not a disc drill person, and so I was not expecting alot, but I was very impressed by what it did in less than ideal conditions. I fact I would say that not a lot else would have been Able to go, and it placed the seed evenly and in the right place. the flap of soil covered over the seed and it was quite tilthy below the seed. We played about with the pressure and it could put no end of pressure on if needed be.

I think I would be seriously annoyed if I had bought a jd750a and spent a load modifying it to try and close the slot when you can get one of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear God "willy" with talk like that I hope you are not going to the Groundswell meeting as you might well find yourself head-first in one of the compost loo's..
However very interesting to hear...It would be good to have home-grown drill suited to our conditions.
Tony Reynolds will be only to pleased to pull @willy out and hose him down.

Was it a trailed or mounted?

Interesting, albeit somewhat inflammatory! I think Weaving have come up with a good design which, although not entirely novel, does offer something different to the other offerings out there. My current feeling is that it's the best disc drill out there for tacky heavy soil.

Who gave the demo ? Was it weaving themselves?

@90hp farming you have completely missed the point... Compost loo's are dry so there would be no water available.. to hose @willy down.
I wouldnt let one on the farm (green drill) incase i became obsessed......
Its only in the last year or so that JD have started to market the 750 A in the UK and I suspect that TFF members have been instrumental in this policy change. We tried to buy one in 1998 but we're unsuccessful, mainly because JD dealers had signed up to other drill suppliers which required more cultivation hence more tractor power. I was in the US in 1998 and there were JD adverts in at farm publications suggesting that more tillage was the way forward..to counter soil and weed problems.. Weaving Machinery do not sell tractors so have been working with farmers and agronomists for the last 18 years to find suitable machines for UK conditions (cropping, climate etc etc) We tried one of the first Krause drills that Weaving machinery brought into the UK and it was a serious contender to our Kuhn. Ironic that Kuhn have bought up Krause...

Couldn't agree more. The only trouble with it, is that it will work in conditions that we probably shouldn't be drilling in!
