Weaving GD demo

Couldn't agree more. The only trouble with it, is that it will work in conditions that we probably shouldn't be drilling in!
I have couple of field left to drill, one is in ideal condition for DD the other would be challenging, so i am interested to see how the GD drill would cope compared to our conventional systems. But getting a demo of Weaving Machinery GD Drill is proving a challenge.

Better one pass to get the seed growing in decent time, than 3 or 4 to dry the soil before drilling, in the same conditions.
I hope you're right. I don't particularly like the look of the beans i drilled direct with the GD in very wet clay! It put em in though! Can't fault the drill, perfect demonstration conditions

I got on the list at Cereals last year for this spring. Reinforced at Lamma with Weaving, and demo went through Does....but there are a lot of people like you that heard diddly squat from them!

Its only in the last year or so that JD have started to market the 750 A in the UK and I suspect that TFF members have been instrumental in this policy change. We tried to buy one in 1998 but we're unsuccessful, mainly because JD dealers had signed up to other drill suppliers which required more cultivation hence more tractor power. I was in the US in 1998 and there were JD adverts in at farm publications suggesting that more tillage was the way forward..to counter soil and weed problems.. Weaving Machinery do not sell tractors so have been working with farmers and agronomists for the last 18 years to find suitable machines for UK conditions (cropping, climate etc etc) We tried one of the first Krause drills that Weaving machinery brought into the UK and it was a serious contender to our Kuhn. Ironic that Kuhn have bought up Krause...

I hear on the grapevine that the SD Liner may be getting updated soon

I did not really have a plan ! But both drills are here in the yard and i have a field of Canary seed to drill. Sumo and Weaving have been good about the weather situation and we hope to drill with both early next week, you are more than welcome to come and have a look at the Oats we drilled with the sumo and/or see them (hopefully) working in the same field next week.

Well I have spent the weekend crawling about looking at my weaving GD and sumo dts plots, and have decided to go with the weaving.

They both look good but generally found weaving more consistent and also allow more chopping of straw. Also their service was a little better.

I spent yesterday crawling around looking at the Weaving demo plot and the amount of slugs in the slots is ridiculous. I think this idea of drilling on the green and letting the slugs eat the cover crop whilst the cash crop comes through is in limited experience not very convincing. Slugs seem to much prefer the damper micro-climate of the drilling slot than having to be on the surface eating the cover crop. I would definitely spec the slug pellet applicator which applies pellets into the slot.

This year yes but it won't always be the case. Last year was quite different

Do they eat the blackgrass as well ? or are they selective?
