Weaving GD demo

I do like t change my mind, but I am signed up now for the weaving and very pleased with my final decision.

Time will tell if I am right.

Both good drills, As with all disc DD it is mainly about closing the slot. I felt the GD has closed it a bit too much and the Sumo not quite enough in conditions which were not ideal. But time will tell and i will post up some pics when crops emerge.

I was thinking about the GD slot closure. Do you want it not closed too much so the shoots can get out and growing quickly, but with more exposure to slugs during that time, or do you want a tighter slot with less access to slugs, but with potentially too much of a barrier to the emerging shoots.

I felt that it had pushed it down too hard in wet soil conditions too. But it is just poking through in row where as my claydon and dts its on just chittting in the wetter areas where it pulked up wet soil which has set like concrete

That's the joy of farming, every farm and field different. I'm the spring no matter how hard we close a slot it will start to open quite quickly with dry weather as the soil shrinks. Complete opposite in the autumn.
It will always be a compromise and may often need a following measure such as harrowing or rolling.

Had three demos over the last week, GT Plains Saxon, Weaving GD and Sumo DD, all three drilling Borage.

Early to call , but I thought the Saxon needs a Spartan type toolbar for DD really as penetration and slot closure are not ideal on heavy soils. Would make a good GP drill on lighter land though.
The Weaving GD got the seed in the ground somewhat better than its mounted brethren, and seems to work best in disturbance terms if driven relatively slowly?

The Sumo DD seemed to penetrate fairly well and closed up the slots relatively well. The depth wheel works alongside the disc , and coulter bounce was minimal.I thought the weight transfer bar was essential on a mounted machine.

Will post more photos on emergence, thanks to all who brought out their machines.

Do you have any pictures or an explanation of this weight transfer bar? I was wondering why there weren't the number of comments about DD3 and penetration like there is for some disc drills and 3 less coulters on their own shouldn't make that much difference.
