Weaving GD drill press wheel bracket

Hi ,

Somebody told me they had recently changed the design slightly of the depth wheel bracket, mainly the way the strengthener tube goes across the top of the wheel itself? Is this right as I can’t find any pictures showing any changes. A picture would be great if anybody has one handy.

Cheers

it also increases the clearance for the wheel so those that wish to can go in stickier and wetter conditions
which imho is usually too wet to get an optimum crop from notill but may help the mintiller

in 2016 when I drilled in to tilled land I could drill it but could not roll it due as it never dried enough and all the slug pellets were on the top and washed away but the slugs were in the loose soil with nothing but wheat seed to eat
notilling on the green avoids the problem without using slug pellets

Yes it was the clearance between the wheel and the bar that goes across the forks. We have had a problem with it picking up trash occasionaly and it getting stuck between the wheel and the bar. Its usually we are drilling slowly round the first run on the headland under the hedges.

Were you putting the slug pellets on with the drill ??

No

the problem was the seed bed was too loose as the press wheel could not consolidate enough as the soil was not dry enough
If the drill had not gone we would have waited and done a better job
Part of one tramline was not sprayed off so had large rape volunteers which drilled much firmer and also had plenty of food for the slug rather than taking the newly germinating seed

Any cultivated drill would have had the same problem unless it would not go in the wet soil

The big disc would not have gone

The land also had a lot of bg so we planted with spring barley and then spring beans are planned for next spring this will sort the bg and leave us able to plant wheat at the optimum timing for highest yields

With every year of notill experience making the continuation of notill more certain
