Ahhhh could be……🤷‍♂️
To get my sprayer to be spot on I had to alter the timings.
If that's not possible then the other way would be altering the measurements to the seeder.
Interested to know how you get on, my 750 is unlocked to section control, I'm sending position and speed from the 750 to the drill, seems a small step to get it to add section control switching instead on the finger switch.

Is it possible to trick it with altering the position of the seeder?
Yes I think that’s how to do it, rather than a numerical time value. If you entered a shorter distance between the GPS receiver and the coulters then seed would start and stop more quickly.

Actually having slept on it, I bet it needs field iq to do this.

Surely the commercial satnav systems have a look ahead function for turning an implement on before it gets to the unapplied area?

Has anyone tried the bolt on scrapers for the GD coulter tyres? How effective were they?

In only slightly marginal conditions, I've had soil and straw picking up on the tyres. It then build up above them as it gets scraped off by the tyres swing arm and can't fall down. I've had it on a few occasions where the discs are still seeding well enough, but a lot of soil has built up over the tyres till they will stall.

I had noticed that the newer versions nolonger have the bolt holes on by the tyre axles.

I’m my experience if it’s picking up on the tyres to that extent the disc is smearing so go home or get a tine drill

It's fairly normal to have a layer of soil on the tyres, but as above it is too wet if it's got to the point of stalling the wheel.
But that's on true zero till ground, if it's cultivated it'll behave differently.

Advice please:
I’ve got a 3ha field that is presently in a MTS AB9 Winter bird food mixture. Our MTS agreement ends this year, to be renewed with a new one. But, I am moving this 3ha’s to somewhere else and want to plant this field with wheat.

I DD’s the AB9 in May 2020 and it has survived really well into this year. There is a lot of kale in it and surprisingly, a lot of clover in the bottom. The only bugbear is a lot of charlock that grew this Spring and is all prodded up with a lot of seed in it.

I’m very tempted to spray it off now with 4 litres of Roundup Flex in 200 litres of water to kill the Kale and clover. Obviously it won’t get the Charlock.

But I’m then tempted to drill into it with my GD, rather than plough and combi-drill it.
I’ve seen how well it works going into some very tall cover crops. So tall that the tractor needed Satellite navigation to be able to know where to drive.

This is mostly quite light land and I’m certain my GD will drill it.
If I Roundup’d it off now, how long would I need to wait so as to be sure it has worked well enough, before I could drill it?

Perhaps @Warnesworth would like to give his opinion?

Plenty of zero tillers have drilled before spraying off or after a day or two of a glyphosate dose. Are you happy that there are no grass weeds shaded under the canopy?

Cheers,
Yes reasonably happy about the grass situation. Planning to use angled jets (Defy- Gardian air type) set at 100 l/ha at 12kph, but driving at 6kph to get 200l/ha. It is only 3 ha after all.

Am more worried that spraying after drilling would shade too much material and the spray not hitting all the target.
I also don’t to want break the stem of the Kale so that is doesn’t take in the Roundup, only to recover.
What do you think?

I'd do it 24hrs pre drill I think.

The only slight issue I have is that the cover is so good, it is the best bit of cover for pheasants we have!
Might upset one or 2 of the Powers that be by drilling it before we’ve shot it.

At the moment, it’s a bit like shooting in the Fens. They’ll all be in one bit of Sugar beet and you hope you don’t hit that bit until the 1st drive after lunch, when everybody is too pee'd to hit them.

My excuse will have to be that at least the buggers will move on to the other bits of cover.
It’ll be a JFDI situation, don’t tell them and they won’t know until they go to shoot it!!

Been back on drilling today, Bairstow wheat into an OSR stubble. Well chopped and rotted residue, I must have got off the tractor to do unblock discs about twenty times in a 12 ha field. Any tips?

Drill earlier. If you are DD’ing, you can afford to drill earlier in good condition (in the Autumn), because you are not moving much soil and releasing nitrogen which means that emergence is much slower.
You are also not disturbing anything like as much Blackgrass, which then doesn’t want to grow.
I’ve cut my pre-em amounts in half this year, thinking that if I need to top it up to full rate, I could go back post-em.
No need so far and probably won’t need to at all.
Here is a bit I drilled on 15th September into Linseed stubble.

I am fast coming to the conclusion that if you can Direct drill earlier into good conditions, we should all be doing so.
And I’m the one who famously quoted that I had given up ploughing in my farming career 3 times and there would never be a 4th!

When I consider that I’ve already saved more money by DDing and reduced Pre-em chemicals /ha than the BPS comes to AND yields are just as good if not better, it just seems an utter no brainier!
I’m shocked to say so.
But I need to thank all of you on this thread for your input and advice, as well as @Warnesworth , @Brisel , @SilliamWhale and @Clive .
I also really wonder if Simon Weaving actually truly realises what a fantastic drill the GD actually is!
